I'd maybe got for as dark a grey as you can get, or even just slap some grey edging onto the black boots. It'll go well with the purple.

I really like the purple bows, makes them seem much more magical and less just on fire like the studio scheme.

What's the purpose of the level 1 mage? Also, I don't think you need Banner of the World Dragon, since you don't have any valuable blocks (except the archers).

I think I might split the archers into smaller groups (24+12), give your BSB the Ring of Fury and a little defense (maybe ironcurse icon and shield of merwyrm?), and drop the level 1 mage.

Or, convert the mage to Shadow to help with spell selection for your level 3. You REALLY want certain spells with this list vs. ogres, and that will help you out. Still I recommend Ring of Fury and probably a dispel scroll on this guy. You can afford to drop a unit of reavers (you're over on core) to help with the mage's equipment (or level 2 upgrade)

my mage doesn't have any defencive measuements so I thought the banner would be an option,

2x shadow is indeed what i'm considering because of the reasons you give. in >2000 points i would choose an archmage to increase the change of good spells even more.

1 can drop a unit of reavers i suppose for a dispell scroll.

thanks for the advice,

Re: Peepster PLOG; UPDATE 28 march frosty chicken

#38 Post by Peepster1976 »

In march I finally started painting again. I converted, based and basecoated my Frosty Chicken way back in september 2013 and now until march I finally got to do the painting.

The 2 frosty chickens were both a gift from my freinds. So i wanted to assemble the differently so besides colour you got tell them apart. Cause I knew it would take some time before i start painting those chicken.

Online I found a version with the wings upside down, and i liked the idea of that. I cut the claws of my IoB Griffon and started teh convertsion and the sculpting. First i used the GW putty, but found a MUCH cheaper one and continued with that.

Alos the snow waas a first timer, not how i pictued it but I content.

The Final results. Its here painting teh wings and blending the paint on the model i used Technical: Lahmian Medium a lot. More than half a little bottle for my chicken alone. Its great stuf, mixing the paint till its very thin u almost get a wash like liquid, very easy in different layers and very easy blendingon the model.

Another thing finished!!

It’s an idea of an unitfiller i had. Since i’m mostly playinf Ogres I thought it might be nice to represent it in my army. So I bought this cut in half Ogre-thing base, put some pieces on it to match my army’s base, and voila!! I magnetise the swordmaster and as u can see I starte with the white lion. I think this an good flexible use of unit fillers ;-)

It was also an attempt to use the technical paitn Blood-for-the-blood-god and Nurgle’s-Rot. Both are fun and easy to use.

Dragon Finished!!

Finally my Dragon is finished!! I assembled it 2 years ago and started painted soon after.
In Oktober 2013 it fell (babies and miniatures are NOT a great combo!!). It broke in two pieces, just under the chest. A lot of spinal processes were broken too, and many small foci of paint damage. It was my own fault thought. A lesson well learned, but it meant I basically had to start painting all over again to correct the many foci of damage.

The wings are magnetic, this makes it easier to transport it. I also magnetised the weapon of the rider. Ithought i was a nice change, after the charge change the lance for a big ass sword!! The Sword is a combination of 2 swords. I alwas liked the flaming blade frome the empire wizard set, but the hilt wasn’t appropriate, so I had to modulate it a bit, happy with the result.

The rider is also a combination. The upper piece/torso is the high elf champion from gamezone
http://www.gamezoneminiatures.com/tiend ... fenix.html. The model needed a bit of work though. I choose this model because i liked it a lot but could find a apropriate fit on a base and place it in an infanttry unit. Besides this the position of his left arm would make it possible to make a chain/leash/bridle kind of thing. Mayby this comes later. But for now I keep it like this
The leggs I bought from ebay, its from Imrik himself, I had to make sure the leggs would fit a dragon, or else the rider might fall of ;-)

On the base I started with some scenery bits so it would fit in my army. I also placed a gobbo in an egg, it was a gift from scibor miniatures
http://sciborminiatures.com/pow.php?abs ... nny_01.jpg.
After positioning the dragon on the base, I didn’t take into account the weight of the rider. So I had to place a metal couterweight on the other side. A baby dragon in an egg was the perfect fit for that It’s from Reaper Miniature, comes in a set of two, so one spare for my next dragon.
http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/b ... test/02802
Last I put a lot of grass on it (insert Dutch Grass joke here), to make it a bit more soft/nest like.

All-in all it was a bit of work, but (besides the fall) very satisfying to work on. The Carine dragon is in my opinion the best dragon out there, not to big/small, and a great pose.

Well I hope u like it, comments and feedback are welcome.

some really great conversions Peepster! I too love the rainbow of colors you use. the green on the Frostheart is very unique with the blue n purple; not sure I am a fan of that, but can't argue the model stands out and the paint job is spectacular! nice unit fillers, too, I may need to start doing some for my elves.

Last month not much time to paint. But I focussed on assembly and characters. Assembled 6 skullcrushers and a skycutter. The last one I used in battle. Man those things a fragile, a small unit of archers/xbowmen simple shoot it down…….. nice model though, and very fragile for transport . I would not recommend it.

I painted a Handmaiden, also a very nice model. Its my first try on NMM, I’m happy with the results. The model is quite small compared to other high elves. Especially the sisters of Averlorn. Those heads are much bigger.
Probably paint an other Handmaiden cause I like them so much in battle, different model in the same color scheme.

Image
Image
Image

AN other thing I painted was a wizard. Never painted one before, and i use it every battle so a bit silly that I didn’t started it. I kinda have a policy (besides paint what u want, its not work its relaxation time) to paint the things u use most first.
It was a very quick job. I started using a wet pallet with this one. Its a HUGE improvement. Later more on wetpallet. I think the improvement is visible on the high light work of the inner side of the mantle/cape and his dress. The blue flame/wave thingy was painted without the use of the wetpallet, so u can spot the difference. Besides that I tried a little free hand symboles on the outer side….. well its ok i think, I need some practice with that.

Image
Image
Image
Image

As I said I started a wetpallet, largely because of the guy on youtube from tabletopminions.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96mjmqW ... 3AHvyCgtbQ
I do like his other movies as well.
Image
well this i mine, picture doesn’t help much. But maybe for those who never hear of a wetpallet before.

Thanks for reading.

Advice and critics are always welcome, till nxt time

wow, they look good. You certainly have painting skills. However, I think they could be improven by adding more and deeper shade. for example on the left arm of the handmaiden. And for example on the wizard on his breastplate (also the division towards the blue) and more places. Still they are done superbly.

also, my wet pallete looks the same, or well, same box :P

Its been a while updating this POLG, and the recente developments around our game made it no longer possible NOT to post an update. But more on that later….
Main reason though is we moved to Alkmaar and got new jobs. So all in all way to busy for me-time. So hardly any game and little painting.

What did I do? I got a “few” dragons as a departing gift from my ex-collegues, which I’m really happy about. And what else does a person do when he has little time to paint…..? He buys stuff…… and so I did…. Again and again… ;-)

I started painting agein with some scenery. I had two citadel forest in a box which I really wanted to use. People and GW do great things with does trees….. So a search the internet and made a decision and game uo with this design… And to start up my skills i started with a simple hill. It was a good start.
The hill is from microartstudios
http://shop.microartstudio.com/battlefi ... -c-73.html

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

After that I continued with a new dragon!! It went much fastest than the other one. Main reason is the technique. I wanted to try to paint the miniatur with only /mainly washes(/shades), and I did. Only the armour is with a bit of metallic, but also much washes. The wings need a little attention still. I’m happy with the results its very close to what I envisioned.
Dragon is obviously from ultraforge.

The I started various characters and have been working on them on and off. By then I was back in the mood and had the courage to start the phoenix guard. I have a bit of a hate-love relation withbthese guys. They were a pain to put together, a horror to put on the bases. And even MORE DREADFULL TO ASSEMBLE AS UNIT!! But man they are great to use on the battlefield!!! ;-)

So still working on those….

I dont what to put all my new projects in one update…. So to be continued soon!

I love to see 1 dragon in a blog - 2 beautifully painted ones has me positively bouncing off the walls

The ultraforge one is a few years old - I can't ever decide if I like it or not, or whether I'm judging based on its price tag or judging the model relative to other available options. When it's painted like this though I love it!!
Bring me my bow of burning gold, bring me my arrows of desire, bring me my spear O' Clouds unfold, bring me my chariot of FIRE!

Piece Mind….

Because of the new releases and all that’s going on in the WHFB world, I would like to share my opinion here. Keep in mind I’m not a regular player, and still don’t have all the 8th edition rules in my fingertips. But try to make informed decisions.
So my 2 cents…..

About a year ago, somewhere augustus 2014, I ordered my first part of the End Times serie. I thought is was fantastic, I really liked the Nagash model. Started reading the old Nagash trilogy booklets from way back. And enjoyed my time in the Warhammer universe(/Multiverse… whatever). After those books more End Times books followed and I liked them all. Very nice books to look into. I really liked the way the portrayed the battles with a overview of the army list and the photo shoots of the miniatures present. Still havent read all the books , only 1,3 and 5. Also great big new miniatures, really awesome stuf!! I did miss some good guys, especially some great new dragon or some
thing….. (but a the rumors of the internet tells me a big dragon is to come….And boy I like my dragons ;-)).

And now…. I had some fun with assembling the models… played some games….. and..…. Apparently its AGE of SIGMAR time now.

That release came as a bit of a surprise to me, even with all the rumors and pictures. The game is different than I expected. Haven’t played a game, but got a good impression from various youtube channels. Especially TabletopMinis made some really nice movies about the game play and scenarios.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbIvPo ... 0LtQyFLqQA

Its a totally different game than WHFB, and I do believe as others have stated earlier, WHFB is dead and this is it. I think I do understand the WHY and HOW GW did what they did. The 8th Edition needed to change, it needed new blood and an easier system. I’ve tried to explain the game to some friends of mine. And we played some battle (they being novices) but its complicated… So 8th edition is not an easy game to step into. Even besides the money issue.
I think AoS is a solid, easy to play game. I understand why they choose Sigmar as their new centerpiece. And I do like some aspects of it. For me, not much time for gaming, no need to build an army list, is kind of an nice thing. Makes it easier to start a game. And I can finally put on the table what I want…..
As someone put it, its a way to play with your toys, but its not a real game.
Oh and the silly rules are horrible!! What lack of sense of humor must they have at HQ GW!!

After a month of contemplating I think its not a game for me…
1) I want a game of big battles with units, Its spectacular to see a war on a nice battletable. And AoS is not that spectacular.
2) I just started an skirmish game (X-Wing), that has a great setting, (who doesn’t like STAR-WARS!!!?) its affordable, and its a game which is easy to learn and explain to my friends.
3) I don’t like the models. They are, as a lot of people said, sigmarines. It’s more a superhero kind op miniature than a fantasy soldier.

Last but not least…. I think a really important reason, which still lurks in the back of my mind, I just lost my Warhammer as I knew it….. And it makes me a bit sad, no it makes me a bit angry. Why did I just buy all this great new End Times products . Would I still have bought them if I knew within a year the game would stop, and a new game would start…..who knows. But to me its a slap in the face. Probably not as big as for someone who played the game weekly, but still I felt it. And THAT emotional reaction is still there. I dont think a company wants that for their customers.
As 1d4chan on its site puts is, its a really bad way to update a game.
http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Age_of_Sigmar
They change it to much…… (a bit like Jennifer Grey’s nose maybe ;-)

Luckily I backed the kickstarter for 2nd edition Kings of War. So I had my eye on an alternative, and I’ll be trying that in the coming years. I’m pleased to see other have started it too, also on this site. And I enjoy the topic from Swordmaster
http://45.40.135.47/~ulthuan/forum/view ... 2426698377

I don’t think I will be supporting GW much in the future. But who knows what great models they will produce (a BIG dragon?). But now i will look for other companies for miniatures…..Reaper just finished a great kickstarter!!!
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/15 ... r-mr-bones
(with also a BIG dragon!!)

So thats my 2 cents…… now back to painting and modeling, I have a great Windmill to finish!! Almost finished
http://www.tabletop-world.com/Windmill.php
And of course the ever during torture of my phoenix guard….

Thx for visiting!

New Wind Mill!!

A small piece of scenery I wanted to share. Its a great piece from
http://www.tabletop-world.com
I like painting scenery at the moment, it a nice easy break from the more detailed work with the miniatures.

Image
Image
Image
Image

Making some progress with the phoenix guard. Taking a break from them for now, quality of painting is just below my normal level. Its a paint at the moment. I did make a small unit filler, 2nd on its way. Did enjoy that!

BABIES!!

So starting with a new dragon. Still have some in reserve…..One was a gift from a chinese friend….. And an other was a parting gift from my former colleagues, VERY pleased with them!!!

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

Kinda stuck with this one…. Started with blue, but during the End Times series I wanted a more crimson look so I added some red…. And now I don’t know how the proceed, so color advice is more than welcome here.

So getting back into painting is going good. Ending with a small tip for all the painting dads out there. Who are trying to paint with the little kids around. I used to have a fixed evening reserved for painting/hobby (wife agreed ;-)). I stopped that. I have a much greater output/result when I use the little minutes or hours during the week. Im no longer fixed on that one evening, still can paint what I want. And enjoy the progress during that week; be flexible.

Again thx for visiting!

You need to do so in the place where you've uploaded your pictures.

If you have already done so, then it could take a while before the change becomes apparent. Something to do with caching etc.
