Hmm any chance you could be more specific? Is it the positioning of him or the paint job or the color choice? I do believe his pose is a bit off when you factor in the positioning of the griphon but I could not fit him better on such a small base.Il Maestro wrote:Hmmmm, there's just something 'wrong' with that gryphon noble base, but I can't put my finger on it...
Haha in all seriousness, this is a really fantastic log so far, especially that BSB banner - I can't believe that's your first attempt at freehand nailed it!
Keep it up (minus the dead Druchii )

Re: Nyeave's plog - Swordmasters done
So long time no hear (Rome Total War 2 and a fair few weddings came in the way c",).
I am still working on my reavers and just did a test for the highlights on my horses. So now I ask you what you think. I took to heart what many of you said about my too subtle highlights and made them more pronounced. Did I overdo it?
Anyways. Initial frenzy of Rome 2 has slowed down and I should get to paint a bit more now.

The sharp, cartoonesque highlights turned out great, very easy on the eye I'm doing the Reavers at the moment, too - fantastic models, aren't they?

Fantastic models! (Appart, ofc, from the klunky parts under the reigns and behind the saddle due to them being molded in only 2 parts - and a head)

Re: Nyeave's plog - Horses and highlights
Finally after 3 months I managed to finish my reavers! Here's a few pictures of the unit and a few seperate models. Pretty pleased with how they came out in the end although the horses might be a bit too cartooney for my taste.

I like them! I think the horses look great and the grey compliments your strong colours really well. I especially like the leather armour, it's perfect for light cavalry.

Re: Nyeave's plog - Reavers finished
And then I have been working on a new unit filler for my swordmasters. I am imagining my army marching over an ancient battlefield loaded with battle debris. The old unitfiller I have a new plan for.
The pictures might a be a little too close up - the marble effect looks more realistic at a little distance.

Really nice painting.
Also, I'm stealing your unit filler for my PG . I need something 'neutral'. Banners on the ground were a bit too neutral, rampaging white lions were too Chracian, and I don't have the kit to do a pheonix statue or similar...What did you use for the 'egg-timer' pillar?

I used the tip of a wooden clothes peg (At least thats what my dictionary says it's called). Just sawed it off and glued the 2 parts together. Then sanded it down to remove most of the wooden texture from its surfaceFerny wrote:Really nice painting.

Lovely clean paint work mate, and the unit filler fits in nicely.

Brilliant unit filler, fits with the unit nicely. Good idea on the clothes peg pillar. Also love the reavers, what are you working on next?
Re: Nyeave's plog - Reavers finished
Good work on the reavers! Nice color scheme. I also like your unit filler synthesis! It turned out prety cool! I only have a sugestion to make (if i may) i would paint a light ochrish(yellowish) glaze over the marbles and when it dries some white stray lines too to make a more reallistic effect! But it looks ok eitherway!!

At the moment I am away two weeks on well earned holliday with my fiancee and the inlaws, but when i get back home I am going to finish my secret santa and then work on fleshing out my swordmasters with a standard and bring my spears up to 30. The next "big" thing in the pipeline is my mage/loremaster (you can just see the primed model on one of the swordmaster pictures above). After that, not sure. Maybe more DP's and a mounted prince (converted Tyrion).

Re: Nyeave's plog - Reavers finished
After a quick painting frenzy I managed to finish a few spears. The faces aren't really up to normal standard (guess I shouldn't have had a few pints of beer while painting them), but hey, they are rank and file. Anyway I tried to hold them up against the first spears I painted and must admit I see improvement despite these new ones being done in less than half the time.
Remember the unit filler with the banner that I said I had other plans for? This is what it was originally intended for. I really like it. If not as a filler then just my first little diorama.
Unit of 30 spears done - should take a while before I paint more of these

Re: Nyeave's plog - More spears
Love the filler. Any chance of a shot of the unit from the front? Is the filler much taller than the others?
Re: Nyeave's plog - More spears
Thanks alot. I must admit that as the army starts to grow I like my scheme even better. It really looks good when you see the army as a whole (At least I think so). Just a few more models to flesh out some units and it will be time for a new army shot. Approaching the 2500 points mark.Tzineris wrote:Very nice and clean work!! Beautiful color scheme! Tried to take a picture but I cant get the depth focus to work with me 8damn I need to learn how use this camera better). I can tell you rises less than a cm above the other models.Gizmos wrote:Love the filler. Any chance of a shot of the unit from the front? Is the filler much taller than the others?

Yeah I am not fused though as I don't want to bring too strong a list when I play my cousin. Every single game we have played so far I have absolutely crushed him in 4 turns. Bring out the spears of doom! (my doom...)RE.Lee wrote:Now if they only got heavy armour...

Re: Nyeave's plog - More spears
Swordmaster Standard Bearer done. I think this might be my best mini so far. As you can see I tried my hand on some wet blending and NMM on the banner and think it came out pretty damn fine for a first try (I don't think metallics look right on banners. It's supposed to be cloth after all). The NMM gold is by far best on the runes and the sword handle. On the crescent my glaze medium made my paint go a bit lumpy. But it's definitely not the last time i do NMM gold. Also his face seems pretty good and his eyes are actually looking forward
I don't know why the sword on the banner looks like that. It's pretty smooth in reality.
Also its amazing how some bitz are just so forgiving. The sword on his hip took me about 10 minutes to paint and I think it looks splendid

Smooth is the best word discribing him! Well done on the NMM too! Very well excecuted especially for a first time! I think thought that you should go nmm for the sword on the banner too! Everything shows that you will manage so well Good luck fo the rest of the bunch!

Nyveave great plog! I'd also love to see an army shot.
Re: Nyeave's plog - SM Standard, wet blending and NMM
Okay couldn't resist having a go at it now. Here he is. Again the glove was much easier than the sword. Got to practise on surfaces. Seems to be the hard part. The hardest though was drawing that white line down the middle. nearly ruined it all. Anyways, need to get to the airport - Cya!Tzineris wrote:Smooth is the best word discribing him! Re: Nyeave's plog - SM Standard, wet blending and NMM
You can give it a coat of varnish to protect the surface from any slip ups. When I'm trying something like NMM it makes it easier to grab a Q-tip and pull the paint off the varnish than having to redo the entire NMM surface!
