hey guys, i have decided to start a painting blog, hopefully so that it will help my painting, and helping other people with tips for theirs. I have never done a blog before (emphasis on *blog*) so it will be interesting to see how this goes. At the moment i am painting my first Tomb Kings model - a Necrosphinx. yes they are awesome. i will hopefully show you how to get a *half decent* (so sue me) marble effecty thing for the body, and general paint tips. I dont know if you guys would like to see some battle reports and stuff, but i will be including painting content mainly. all opinions are welcome. I DO NOT PROFESS TO BE AN AMAZING PAINTER AND I DO NOT HAVE TOO MANY PAINTS, SUCH AS THE 160~ that there are but i have enough. Necropsphinx pics to follow, however i haven't got a very good camera, so don't expect great pics. when i have finished the Necropsphinx i will move on to my *badly needs painting* high elf army.

Looks very nice. The colours contrast well. It would look better with better pictures though. ;)

I am always looking for ideas so please write what colors and technique you used. Looks like a nice deep jade green despite the bad pictures.

You could try fiddling around with things like the focus, zoom and exposure. Also a tripod or flat surface might help and a light box.

Don't worry, I have problems taking decent photos of models too. :)

Okay guys, the 'Jade'

1. I undercoated the entire sprue in black spray

Image

excluding the green. I used a Humbrol gloss hobby spray, and you can use both halves of the box for both sprues.

2. Leaving it on the sprue, I undercoated the body in Knarloc Green in the Old Foundation Range (I never really moved on) - Deathworld Forest in the new citadel paints i think? possibly a base.

Image

Twice. although once is probably enough. i normally do a 'scant' layer of the paint, then a proper coat over it.

3. Leaving it on the sprue, I painted over that directly with Dark Angels Green in the Old Colour range, Caliban Green in the new layer range. This is the clincher - don't paint on a full coat, but sort of sporadically coat it in the dark green. this will need doing probably twice, possibly three times to make it not look awful. It should end up being dark green, with patches of natural looking lightness sort of.

Image

hoped you liked it.

@Elithmar, thanks, but my camera REALLY is not that good. i mean terrible zoom/res, terrible focus, and its on a flat surface. sorry im so awkward... :(

Edit - have added much more detail to the tail, will hopfully post picks tommorow...

Edit2 - hopefully finish the legs by this evening…

All good, in fact Tomb Kings like sitting in dust for centuries before getting awoken.

Progress is just that. :D
