Aislinn's Host

#1 Post by TheChaosBlack »

Hi everyone!

It's been a LONG time since I've been on an actual *forum* ... There's something nice about the slower pace of replies, the more considered approach to discussion. I hovered around here as a guest many many years ago so nice to be back 🙂

A little about me - a 30 something, alphabet-mafia working professional, interested since 4th/5th, playing since 6th and consistently so even after the end times. Now, with The Old World, I am starting a new force from the ground up.

I have always played high elves, I may have strayed here and there but I always come back to Bois in white. I have a special place in my heart for the monopose archers and spearmen, and the older metal characters. For this army, I'm building it with models mostly from around the 6th ed releases... Though I'm edition agnostic if I feel it 'fits'. This army is based around the idea of a shops company, perhaps of Aislinn himself, and it's machinations in the old world.

This was the test model - and how the scheme developed. A minor conversion for an already broken Aenur sword of twighlight - the titular sword was already snapped off, so he received a bow in replacement (a wood elf plastic bow). The main cloak colour is sons of Horus, one of my absolute favourites colours!)

I was pretty happy with this - came out ok, felt balanced in colour, unlike the simple basing... This was the beginning

Welcome! Thanks for dropping in.

I love the old High Elf models. They have some elegance which is missing from some of the newer models. I have a bunch of older metal archers, and they're the same in their elegance. And nice paint job! The cloak is lovely and the face is well done. I like the details on it. I'm looking forward to seeing the next models.

So after that initial model, I sat down and worked out what I wanted from this army. I settled on 2 things so wanted

It should have a dragon - after so many editions where putting a character on a dragon wasn't great, this one seemed better... So, there, I want one!

It should be themed - even if just for the enjoyment of building and painting, I wanted to theme this list and the stick to it

So this is where the Lothern or 'Sea Elf' theme came from and for that I needed bolt throwers

The feathers and fletchings were done off the cuff during painting with no real plan... I went blue, I thought it looked ok... Then i went well off it, and they have know been repainted in red ✌️

And then to bring us a bit more up to date...

This unit of White Lions joined the fray... They illustrate the red helmet decoration better and this'll be consistent across the army.

And then, the leader. Sea Lord Aislinn, he who can summon 'bottle green dragons' at will... Here he rides atop the aforementioned dragon. I wanted something different for me to paint, I wanted a 6th ed aesthetic to the rider... I wanted something I already had some of the bits for!! 😂 I'm not 100% convinced on this... But not far off what I wanted

And, this gave me a really good chance to practice my shield designs for the sea guard, which I'm relatively please with 🤷
