Library of Hoeth - Painting and Modelling

#1 Post by Malhandir's Feed »

Ohaider,

I would really appreciate it if someone wrote me some tutorials for all our units/characters. I would love pictures to go with it as well. Also, if there is anything you think I should put in, PM me.

Thanks,

What sort of tutorials? Assembly, painting, basing?

Everything. I feel like assembly is not as important, unless it is like stuff such as pinning or something. Basing and painting would be awesome, and yes, I am a librarian :D

Sarcon's basing method:

1) Glue the model on the base, along with some bits, scenery and rocks.
Image

2) Add some feel of level to the base, along with blending in all the various scenery. I use a cheap modeling clay for this that dries when exposed to air. I do always glue it on the base with some PVA glue, otherwise it might come off when you really don't want it to. I use a GW sculpting tool to spread the clay around
Image

3) Next step is to apply PVA glue on all the places where you want sand
Image

4) The base when it's sanded. The sand does look a bit dull to me, so I'm going to add some more variation to break the whole thing up a bit, visually.
Image

5) And to do this, I will glue on some patches of fine slate. Apply the PVA in various small patches:

6) And apply the slate!

Now, off for basecoating ;)

@Feed: I've stickied the thread to keep it in line with the other library treads. Just let me know if you've created a library article out of some of the posts in here and want to clean up this thread.

Also, I'll keep my eyes out for posts in the forum that deserve a library article.

When I get some time today, I'll be sure to get most in. I'm overjoyed at the amount of people who responded.

Does anyone NEED their own section, or can I just divide it all by unit?

Also Rod, I'm not quite sure how to get pictures into the library. Can I just do it the normal HTML way?

Maybe one post per tutorial, and just make the first post an index, with links to the post.

I would just go per unit. It's cleanest that way and makes it easy to find information.

I have no idea how to get pictures in the library either. I'll prod eldacar about it. Either he knows or it's not possible.

Eldacar is ignorant of the workings of the library, having never really had to use it. I, on the other hand, set it up.

Images can be inserted in the normal way via html, if they're hosted somewhere. We can also host in the library.

You should be able to upload files via Resources -> Manage Files.

The files then end up at http://www.ulthuan.net/assets/images/library/ (For instance http://www.ulthuan.net/assets/images/li ... avatar.jpg is the one file uploaded there so far) from where they can be linked.

If you want to host on the server (and I'd suggest it) but dont seem to have the permissions, prod me via email or pm, and I'll sort that out

Feed, you are always welcome to PM or email me for any help. I may not be active, but once you get my attention, I can still operate all the expected stuff, including all the admin functions on the library.

Alrighty, Ellyrian Reavers in, hundreds more articles to go.

Feel free to keep adding in more stuff. Takes me 20 minutes(ish) per article due to stupid editors for the text and bad code, but I'm working on it.

Thanks,

I've just started a blog which is aimed at painting tutorials although it's more how to paint specific items or.colours rather than units. I figured if I could show people how to paint things like Armour, gems and robes.etc, they could design and paint their own colour schemes using the skills they've learned.

The address is http://Pinmanminiaturepainter.wordpress.com

Maybe this could be of use to you?
