I've been inspired by the coloring on this. I'm trying something different and blending colours throughout, the shadows of the armor for example contain greens and turquoise. Doesn't match the rest of the army but its been fun so far.

Another great conversion. There's a solidity to this guy which is interesting.

+1 to liking the archer conversion on the previous page, simple but effective.

Here he is, I had a lot of fun painting this guy and exploring glazes and colours. I had to re-do the head as in the first iteration
he looked undead! It's a fine line between being a ghost-like elf and and undead creature.

Absolutely fantastic! I am amazed how you could design the conversion based on a great picture, stay true to the character and then finish it up with absolutely stunning painting! That is incredibly inspirational and I wanted to thank you for sharing! =D>

OK I hesitate to criticise, considering how much better a painter you are Gray but do you feel there's quite enough contrast in the lower half of the model?

Thanks - glad to hear your thoughts :), less contrast on the lower half of the model was intentional. I was looking at the artwork when I painted it. The coloured illustration of the Shadow King had less contrast on his lower half so I was experimenting with that (thinking that having more contrast on some elements like the face and the moon bow would draw the eye in there). Not sure if it works yet, it's quite new territory for me to use an illustration as reference. I need to stop looking at it and come back with fresh eyes I think.

The low triangle of scale armour (maybe the sword partly) just calls out to be painted in the metal, to me. I could be completely wrong though, for the reasons you give and sometimes such things aren't clear until done and looked at.

Also you painted the guy from multiple angles and we're just looking at the photo.

One way to address the contrast between the armor and clothes is, according to the advice I got from a professional painter, to use warm colors for the clothes and cold for armor. That is why I started using purples for clothes to distinguish them more from cold blues for armor. You might try this on your future projects and see if that works for you.

That is hands down the best Alith Anar I have ever seen. There is nothing more awesome than seeing a totally unique conversion painted to such a high standard, just fantastic stuff. =D>

Do you have any pics of him from the back? I'd be interested to see how you did the bow and quiver.

Awesome conversion. Which Wood Elf kit did you use for the bow and quiver?

I love your painting!! Really nice conversion

Thanks guys, The bow is from the glade guard kit. The moons are either from the bottom of the High elf archers kit or the bottom of banners and the quiver is from the shadow warriors/sisters of avelorn kit.

Thank you so much. This is easily the best Alith Anar I've seen.
