Mandragoran's High Elves (Alith Anar & WL Banner 09/15/14)

#1 Post by Mandragoran »

Hi all! I'm HE fan and collector for 6-7 years, but just since September '10., I actually grab my brushes and paints and start some beauty work  I must admit, great deal of inspirations and ideas I found here (and still do!), especially from a great painters like Baerion and Mireadur 8) (in other words, I did steal some stuff from them   , hope that u guys don't mind :) )

First of all, I'm very,very,very,very,very... very, very slow painter  (in 7 months, i did.. hm.. 45 models, including one BT ) =D> yeah.. i know #-o so this is going to be a very loooong journey :D but i never give up, so.. that is a plus for me. i guess..

My work place, where all the magic happens   ..and my worktable

with my shelves full of elves, waiting to be painted :D

next.. my Reaver noble 8)

p.s. im very sorry for the bad quality of the pictures.. :( I only have my mobile camera..

Thank u guys! :)
@SpellArcher - thanks! every glass cabinet has behind the back wall neon lights.. it's pretty cool in the dark :D
@Mireadur - well yes.. and some stuff (dragon image) from Baerion.. we all steal from someone right? ;)
hahah and it IS narrow.. and really looks like i'm in the jail.. But that is the only place in my house where i could install all my stuff (without taking it back in the boxes or clean it all after) And in time, I really get fond of that narrow jail-ish  place of mine

Aye, 'tis at that my Lord. The multipart sets do make the art of noble building a most competitive sport indeed

Oh by Isha thy youngling she-Elf mage is most lovely. By her pose 'tis simple to tell that she is but an apprentice and shy in her manner which is sweet indeed. Mages by their nature doth have much room for artistry and custom work and yet we do oft see the self same model figures and their generic posing yet again and again (and again.....)

I am uncertain how many mages I do own; all are from diverese makers and not one is like to another.

@Si'anelle of Avelorn - I really like to refresh army with some miniature from another makers.. Not TO many, but, one or two is cool to have in your army.. And the mage job is just perfect for the elf ladies ;)
and U can see my little conversion on her.. Just cut the top of her staff (with skull on it) and glue elf symbol.. piece of cake!

@Tiralya - hm.. no.. but u give me an idea! :D He is shadow mage and she is life.. So i must find her a proper father :) what lore should i take? maybe high?

It matters not if your painting is slow as the quality of your painting is superb. The battle standard bearer looks great - a slight but effective bit of kit bashing!
"I say the Eatainii were cheating - again." -Aicanor
"Eatainian jerks…" -Headshot
"It was a little ungentlemanly." -Aicanor (on the Eatainii)
"What is it with Eataini being blamed for everything?" -Aicanor

thanks guys! your words really inspire me! :D

The plan was that my bsb stands on the higher ground. And I already use rocks and similar stuff for nobles/prince/mages.. So i used brilliant Baerion's idea, and took lion head for the base.. 8)

Will probably look better in a unit, standing above the troops holding the banner high.

Really nice BSB, it could help if you added some foliage around and to the Lion Head to give it an aged look, as well as reduce the empty space between and under his legs...

Could you share the steps you use to paint Gold on his armour...

Appreciate the ideas.. i never worked with green stuff, but there is a first time for everything :D

Sure thing! golden armor - base coat black, then paint everything with bestial brown. Next step is about painting just the scales with shining gold (or all upper armor). Then I use wash- devlan mud all over the place ;) Fourth step - again, paint scales with shining gold, and highlighted with mithril silver. the end  (u can mix gold and silver for step between these two last, if u want.. )
