I really like your painting style. Very clean and neat, totally fitting for the high elves.
Your free-hand on the DP shield is a thing of beauty!

Keep it up! :D
Thanks! having followed your painting log with growing awe for a couple of years all that I can say is "I am not worthy!" :)
Macharius wrote:It's not "blatantly copied", it's "brilliantly inspired"! I really like the green scales, but I was wondering if you were going to unify the armor plates on the dragon with the rest of your army in terms of the gold on your Swordmasters since it looks like you've basecoated the dragon's armor plates for a silver color.
Was thinking of painting the flame detail in gold maybe, my thoughts were as the belly of the dragon is quite yellow gold that making the armour gold too maybe overkill but I might paint a couple of armour plates gold to see how it looks. the saddle back will be gold and also the detail on the reins as well as the scales on the riders armour so there should be plenty of other unifying elements, though I might have to paint up a couple of riders with different kit, ie with a great weapon, 1) to match the Chracian theme and 2) Because lances generally suck now in comparison.

Those SM seem to be top notch. Could you post closer pics pls? they look really really good on that distance showed and would be lovely to see the details of the job!

Same for the dragon conversion (need better pics!). Its a great idea not to be ashamed of copying. In fact i believe that every HE played would love to have one model like that themselves, but most of us wont ever dare to try such work!

Ok I really need to get some more painting done with my army, As now work has calmed down a bit I might have a bit of free time to complete some units.

I was asked ages ago for some photos of my entire army,( well this is most of it barring 100 x 4th ed archers, 8 chariots, 3 dragons and some more silver helms and reavers) As you can see most still needs painting :( but it does look kind of nuts all out together! :D

Speechless - a marvelous collection

I love all of the previously posted miniatures, of course. Your style is crisp and elegant - I'd love to have half of that ability.

I'm looking forward to seeing more!

Yep, your collection does look a bit light on archers in those pictures ;)

Amazing collection. Pretty much every HE model available (past and present) looks to be in there. Is there anything you still want to add to the collection or is it complete for the moment? You must be able to field some impressive armylists. How many points would you say are in there (roughly)?

It does look like you have a fair bit of painting to do. Good luck with that. I agree with Tiralya though that it looks like you're going to need a bigger table soon...

I think I have all High elf models from 4th ed to present apart from the current shadow warriors ( which are substandard compared to 6th ed ones IMO ) though I may buy some for completeness, and also the mail order bow hero and Alith Anar. Otherwise I think I have them all including the unreleased 5th ed shadow warriors and unreleased mage. I will only add to the collection wiith new models now so as we are unlikely to get any new models for a couple of years it looks like it is complete for the moment. As for army size I think it is in the region of 30k.

I seriously need to start painting more quickly!!!

That's impressive. Where did you manage to get those unreleased models? 30k is huge. You could have fought the big dwarf - HE battle by yourself...

As for painting it all, for me the best way would simply be slow and steady. Painting 15 or 30 minutes per day gets me farther then waiting for that one moment where I can work for 2 hours straight.

Of course, keep the pictures comming :)

You are right that you have all the models for now. According to a GW employee we wont see the 8th Edition HE army book till this time next year, and we are to get 3 new units with its release, like all the other armies.

I had a local GW store manager who was a friend of mine and he got given the unreleased mage and knew I collected HE so gave it to me. The unreleased shadow warriors were through another friend who worked on White Dwarf and again got them for me as he knew I collected HE.

I have been collecting HE since the start of 4th edition, (so 21 years or so) and I also worked as a part-timer in a GW store for a couple of years which allowed me to buy a lot of figures for cheap. I have approx 1375 High Elves! That surprises me I thought it was just over the 1000 mark.

Not wanting to derail Ecthalion plog, but do you have any more info or a source? This is the first I've seen about concrete HE rumours. Up until now it was just speculations. (not that I follow all the rumours, but still). And more info is always great.

All i know, and this is from a GW owner, is that the HEs book will be last or close to it when it comes to redoing the 8th edition books. He said that we could be waiting a year or more still. He also said that every army is getting at least 3 new units.

Ok so here are the unreleased figures, I think the shadow warriors were released for a time as a mordheim warband but not certain about that. They will probably be used as a unit of archers for my Avelorn contingent or maybe "Sea Guard" from Cothique. As for the mage I will paint him up one day as I do like the funky hair!

I am continuing work on my archers at the moment, hoping to have a horde of 30 and second unit of 16 finished in the next month or so, actually it will probably be longer as I am riding from Lands End to John O'Groats in early May and need to get some serious training in.

Holy crap you've got the unreleased Mage! I keep my eyes on eBay for that guy, goes for a little over $100 dollars when I've seen him. I've got those shadow warriors and they're one of my favorite parts of my collection!

Ok, so I have finally got round to my BSB and wanted some opinions on which shoulder pad to go for so here are the two options.

Image

I am thinking I prefer the really big lion head but not sure if it is a bit OTT but then he is a Battle Standard bearer after all so he has the biggest flag so why not a big shoulder pad???

And I had carefully trimed down his axe!!! but point taken, I was starting to think it would be nice for him to be a bit more OTT. need to decide on a new banner top now as I was going to use the large lion head originally but now I might just greenstuff something.

I was thinking along the same lines, I've looked at the chariot banner top and I feel its a little small, but I'm favouring either a dragon prince lance tip or a seaguard speartip. Will have a play with them tonight.
