I like the poses, very flavoursome. I really like how you cleaned out one of the helms so it looks like it was his.

Once again it has been some time since I did any painting, but I am chipping away at my spears and have a test white lion done. First ten of my spears are done though still need shields and a little more work on the standard bearer. The test white lion needs a little more work on the axe and, face and gems otherwise I'm quite happy with him though I wonder if I should paint his breastplate green or not, what do you guys think?

Thanks Cyn, I hope to have it finished by 2018!!! I also wonder if I should be painting the detailed breastplates or the rank and file troopers in yellow and green like the command models, I originally decided just to do them gold now I am thinking I prefer them to be yellow and green but it will be extra work, what do you think?

Very striking green color scheme  ! Works beautifully on high elves. Cant wait to see the WL unit finished.

Can you provide some close up shots of the two cavalry units in the forefront/bottom of this image, on your mass army shot ( staggering amount of elves in one table  )? It bugs me are they conversions or 4th/5th ed silverhelms :P ! Thanks

Also green/yellow detailed breastplates do look nice, but so does the champions gold decoration..Could pure yellow work ? Hmm and while I am at it, what colours you used to make that yellow on breastplates ? It really looks good..even better then the green actually ! ( hide )

Apologies for the massed questions!

Hi Jinxs,

No problem about all the questions.

The silverhelms in the photo are 4th edition ones.

I like the yellow and green detailing as it is a unifying link between all the units so I don't think I want to do just yellow.

The yellow on the breastplates of the champion musician and standard bearer, is done by painting a basecoat of ceramite white over my black undercoat then Sunburst Yellow, then a wash of thinned down Fiery Orange, (try to get a more dense colour at the base of the armour) then a fine highlight of 1:1 Sunburst Yellow and White around the edge. and then a final highlight of 1:2 Sunburst Yellow and White along the top edge.

I haven't got any of these, so I can't tell if the different fields are in relief? If they are I think you should go for it, it looks great and doesn't (at least in my experience) take too much effort. Cheap luxury :) But if they aren't in relief that seems like way too much work, but I suppose it all depends on how far you're ready to go.

Edit: On a second note it is an awesome way of distinguishing your command.

Just an update about current progress with my spears.

Nearly finished the unit only gems some black-lining and tidying up left to do on 25 troopers, sheilds still need to be done, still want to sculpt some lion shields

Here is my new conversion, shamelessly similar to Volmir's "Tribute to the fallen" with a few of my own tweeks.

Beautiful army. I think they look better w/ the alternating green/yellow.
They look good without it...but now you know they could look better.
I guess it depends on what you are willing to let yourself 'get away' with, but if your anything like me it will bother you every time you look at them until you eventually break down an do it. :)

Ok so after what seems like forever I might have time to start painting again soon, following nearly stopping altogether after GW killed warhammer I intend to carry on painting and converting purely for pleasure. At some point in the near future after I move into a new house in the next few weeks, the paints will come out and I will start painting the lion BSB I converted. Few tiny modelling bits still to finish but I'm looking forward to painting him. Also I got to make this crazy ring for a customer just before Christmas so thought I'd share it too. The green stuff modelling skills came in handy to make the master mould. :D

I have just discovered this thread and I have to say you are an amazing painter!
I also really like the green based color scheme :D

Hi, yes the banner is a thin piece of gilding metal (a copper/zinc alloy) soldered onto the banner shaft. I wanted a banner that wouldn't break off the shaft if it was dropped.

Wow just stumbled across this Blog, stunning stuff to say the least. Making that Green and Yellow work, very cool indeed. The White Lion Standard Conversion is fantastic too.
