conversions: HQ / painting models (24/05 => griffon knights)
I've written some background for my army and wanted to make characters to represent them:
Vashtor Lacoi:
field-general (not leader of the host)
fielded as cavalry prince/noble
built from: noble kit + cape of IoB-mage + shield from DP kit
Seiryu Cython:
archmage
lore: high and shadow
=> also fire and metal (was once a dragon mage)
built from: mage kit and dragon kit + the book from empire mage kit
Marrek Charoi:
mage (great for fielding annullian crystal)
lore: high and beast
built from: empire mage kit and some spare elven parts (head and staff)
Ellaine Saroir:
archmage
lore: high and heaven
built from: dark elf mage + mage kit + woodelven spear
(idea of green spiral is a magic missle spell: urannon's thunderbolt)
=> will be painted dark blue with white lines to represent lightning
Shinta Harathoi:
noble, BSB
captain of the seaguard (on board this army's ships)
built from: dragon kit + noble kit + DP kit (left lower-arm with sword)
and last but not least
Asur Ashlian Ceyl:
lord of the host (prince)
wanted something "unique" so gave him a beasty (haven't named it yet)
built from: cave dragon (Lotr) + IoB griffon + dragon kit (sword)
=> still needs basing and not 100% finished
Vashtor Lacoi:

Re: conversions: HQ
Very nicely done I'm really digging the first noble with the extra long cape. And the dragon/griffon looks pretty sick to. I'm looking forward to seeing these all painted up.

Right, I've GOT to do a conversion like that!
Very nice.
EDIT: But I don't think those wings could support it!

Re: conversions: HQ
Bigger wings would look better, and being a Sea Elf, I'd lose the back legs, half seagull, half sea serpent.

Re: conversions: HQ
Hmm, thanks for the idea, Tiralya! Yeah, very Sea Elvish.
(Though, being a Sea Elf too, I'd model water flowing off it too, as it rose from the sea!)

Re: conversions: HQ
paining those hero/lord-models will probably take a while (especially now the exams have started). although I just finished a unit of 12 swordmasters:

This is my prototype DP:
I used the exact same colours as for the SM, as I really like a uniform army.
1 down still 9 to go...

Re: conversions: HQ / painting models (01/06 => centrepiece)
asur Ashlian Ceyl, finished and ready to strike:
I'm quit happy with the results. some things could perhaps been done a little better but for my standards I think This is the best I can do.

Re: conversions: HQ / painting models (01/06 => centrepiece)
These are all really cool. From a gaming point of view though, the larger bases you've used might get you in trouble with cannons and the number of units that can get into B2B with you. You also have the problem of blocking some of your own units attacks. Just food for thought. Love the converted griffon-reptile BTW.
Re: conversions: HQ / painting models (01/06 => centrepiece)
@JR: bases aren't really that much of a problem. there are only 2 models with bigger ones and the griffon can't be fielded in official games (+ it's 5 infantry by 6 infantry wich isn't really that much bigger than other monsters). As for the cavalery prince, I haven't glued the horse on the rock so I can detach it and put it on a regular base. But to fit neatly inside a unit the cape would be in the way so I'd have to put him on the outer side.
Also I don't really play warhammer all that much (local gaming group mainly plays Malifaux, Infinity and warmachine/horde) so esthetics trump practicality.
@all: even though most posts have been placed quit some time back, thanks for positive replies.

Re: conversions: HQ / painting models (21/06 => Malifaux)
not really warhammer or high elves but:
I discovered a game called "Malifaux" and I absolutely love it!
if you don't know it, it's a skirmish game with some very flavourful rules like "cheating fate" => check it out!
on top of being a great game it also has (in my opinion) some very nice models and the eary atmosphere of the world/background stories just feels completely right.
thus i painted my first crew:
for more detail and individual models check:

and to find out more about the game itself:

Glad to see you've found Malifaux. It is epically amazing and I love the minis. The whole dark theme to the game is awesome.

It's about time to write one of my very rare posts:
completely finished Vashtor lacoi:

Re: conversions: HQ / painting models (2/04 => mounted lord)
I really like griffons and with the new book even nobles can ride them so got the idea to make a whole unit: champion (lord) + musician (noble) + bsb (noble)
musician
bsb
full "unit"
with flash
still need basing and some extra minor modelling (like the reins). found a way to present bigger pictures though

Re: conversions: HQ / painting models (24/05 => griffon knights)
it looked stupid when attached to his arm, so i made it a decorative item. I still need to find myself a model of althran on foot.
that one would be holding the shield, would have the same sword + a decorative hourglass (it's a fluff thing). so basically: "yeah he dropped it "

Re: conversions: HQ / painting models (24/05 => griffon knights)
The facial expression says enough
"Ah feck! Circle round griffon, I've dropped the shield".
I converted one of mine onto a horse, and I have to say it looked good when I added a shield, but it covered up a lot, and he's such a nice model I didn't want to hide him behind a shield ^_^
