They really look nice, although I don't love the poses. I might magnetise a rider for one.

I have yet to glue it on the flying base. When I do I'll position the talons more out in front so that it looks like a diving attack more. While the game one eagles are a more dynamic sculpt, being plastic and slightly cheaper than those I'm glad I picked them up.

As for a mount conversion, I fear my skills wouldn't accomplish that very well. So, my current plan is placing the flying post further back on the base. Then placing a magnetic area in the front corner of the base where I can place a model on foot. The effect will be a model that is "escorted" by an eagle for a "counts as" mount. This also gives the added flexibility of removing the model on foot so that I have just an eagle.

Some images of the first eagle. Just have to get him on a base. Took an overly simple approach after failing some more detailed variations on the wings. Still happy with how he turned out.

Awesome, and perfect timing. I just primed up two of the very old great eagle models and was just searching for how to do the wings. so this is great!

Nice.

I've just got mine too. Just checking before I get them, it is 50mm bases for eagles, right?

Yes, I believe it is 50mm. I want to say that in earlier editions they were 40mm but in this edition they are supposed to be 50.

Really nice work with the eagles. What happened to the dragon? Any further progress?

Thanks! Umm, what dragon? It looks the same. It's funny because it would be such an easy thing to finish at this point. Funny. And sad.

How did you paint the eagle? Is it just a basecoat and wash, or did you drybrush or highlight the feathers too?

Just a basecoat and wash. I first tried to highlight up some of the feathers and it really started to look odd to me, so I went back and just kept it very basic.

Base coats are Scorched Brown, Dheneb Stone, and a yellow I don't remember the name. Then, washed the scorched brown and dheneb stone with Argax earthshade. Washed the yellow with a sepia wash. Then I just touched up the talons and eyes with chaos black.

Here are the bits I'm using to build a Loremaster. Not a fan of the mini GW created so using the Annointed body from the Phoenix box and some equipment from the Mage and chariot kits. Still considering putting him on an elevated base from the Mage kit as well.

On a side note, was anyone else disappointed with the detail on the Annointed's armour? It's almost like they forgot to sculpt the back of the torso.

Loremaster is assembled. I'm pretty pleased with how he's turned out. Now just need to get him undercoated. Might get some initial basecoats done by late Friday.

Nice! I don't like the anointed's normal pose, but your conversion looks really dynamic.

Bravo! :)

Thanks both! I really wanted to make him look like he was throwing the spell at the enemy. Tried to accomplish this through having the torso twisting and the back arched a bit. It's hard to get a good pic of it.

Here's another WIP shot of the paint job. Not sure on the magic flame effects, but for a first try it's passable. Still some more layers to do on the cloth and some highlights on the armour. Actually this photo is bad so I'll need to break out a better camera this week.

Making some progress on my loremaster conversion. Just need to gloss up the gems and add some basing to call it a day. I'm pretty pleased with how he looks and think he will do nicely on the tabletop. Sorry about the blurry back side, but you get the idea.

I like how you made the flameing attack ring multicoloured. It adds yet another dimension to an already fantastic conversion. :D

Thanks but credit for that goes to my wife. I told her he was casting like a fireball spell out of his hand or something. And she said "why so blue? It needs some orange or something."

Thanks! Getting the legs and torso from the Phoenix kit made the price tag a bit more bearable. With that kit I'll be able to have a Phoenix, a Loremaster and a rider for one of my eagles I think.

I find the armour of the annointed too much over the top, but for a loremaster, for some reason, it seems to fit well =).

So a new place and a new desk to work on equals lots of hobby time, right? Well not necessarily, but it is nice to have a spot to sit when I DO have that time.

Second, have been thinking a lot lately about trays and basing, etc. My March commitment was to magnetize 10 Sword Masters and 30 Archers which is complete. However, my plan for the trays hasn't been as successful so I am looking into trays similar to what shogunminiatures has to offer (trays made of metal). As I was researching them, I saw some striking models where the edges of the base and the tray itself were just plain black. It really made the models stand out which appealed to me. So, I tested a couple of archer bases. Which do you like?

I dont like black, but I do agree a framing color is better. I use Charadon Granite. I like it for this purpose but black works too.

I personnally prefer black, especially with black being part of your color scheme.

Your eagles are beautiful. They are amazing models and you've done an excellent job with painting their feathers.
I'm afraid that painting feathers and wings is something that I've tended to struggle with, but after seeing how you've painted your eagles I'll give your method a try.
