Angel's High Elves - updated with Battle Standard Bearer

I have been collecting High Elves since 2005 and they are by far my favourite army. September last year I decided that I didn't like the models that I've painted so far, in fact they were pretty ugly. So I decided to repaint them all and signed up to Warseer's "Tale of Fantasy Painters" to get some motivation. Now the new army is taking form with about 1000 points painted, mostly characters and expensive models though.

The colour scheme is white robes with grey trims and silver armour. Some armour pieces are painted in gold for contrast and I think that the effect is really nice ;)

I post some pictures below for you to look at and comment on.

Neat. I like the Chariot and the Everqueen especially. On the mage. Maybe one more layer on his gray robes? I can only see Codex and Fortress. An extra layer between would smooth the transition. Gems are cool, as is the scale armour. Keep up the good work!
Ps. What did you use for the chariot's reigns?

Yeah, great stuff!

There's something about the finish I really like.

Thanks for the comment, glad you like them :)
The grey is actually 3 layers Adeptus Battlegrey, codex grey and fortress grey. I guess that the ABG doesn't show up very well in these pictures, nor in real life except if you look carefully. Itäs more evident on the other side of the model. I'll see if I can do something about it.

The reins were first painted with scorched brown then overbrushed with graveyard earth and finally with bleached bone.

Thank you :)

I think I know what you mean, there's just something about them that I really like though I'm not exactly sure on what it is.

At the moment I'm working on a unit of ten archers which I hope will be done this weekend. I'll post a WIP of them below.

EDIT: I've got lots of more pictures of them so if you want to see some more just tell me and I'll post them here.

The archers are finally finished, a week later than promised but here they are! Personally I think that the result came out nicely but they were a bit of a drag to paint with all of the models looking exactly the same. I tried to break up their monotony by applying some selective shading on the robes to make them look a tiny bit different from each other.

The Dragon Prince conversions will be done tomorrow and I will start painting them sometime next week. I'll post a picture of them when they are finished if you want to see them.

And a new pic of all the stuff that's finished.

Very nice, very neat. Well done. I agree with Elaithnir, the Everqueen is especially good looking.

Err...that came out wrong...

Thank you, I have posted them there in the Tale of Fantasy Painters as well as in my paint log which is called Something Painted This Way Comes.

You won't have to wait long for that since they are almost done. Expect pictures tomorrow, or on Tuesday in a worst case scenario

I'm impressed with the archers, good work! My old archers all look the same, I'll have a go at shading them differently like you did.

That's the downside of the otherwise great models. Just a little bit of selective shading helps a lot really. I'm looking forward to see how yours turn out :)

The dragon princes are more or less finished. Just some details and about 60 gems left before they are, finally, done. Expect pictures on Tuesday.

Here are the pictures of the finished Dragon Princes. I'm really happy with them and it feels nice to finally have them done since I don't like painting cavalry that much. The cloaks and tails were my first ever green stuff sculpts, so that's why they aren't exactly uniform.

Next up is some maiden guards that I will start to paint this week.

Glad you like them. I've got 15 white lions that are almost assembled and they will probably be painted in April.

Thanks, it's nice that you like them.

Normally I'm not keen on using the high helm's helmet for dragon princes, but the cloaks really help. Good work! The white trim (is that the right word?) sets the rest of the models off nicely.

Thank you, I was a bit concerned that the models would be to white while I was painting them. Fortunately that didn't happen.

Fun thing the painting progress on the High Elves, they look like crap almost until the point when they are finished and you can't really tell anything about how they will turn out until they are 100% done.

Time for a small update, this time it's Maiden Guards!
I have finished 5 of them and have 4 more that I'm painting at the moment. The models themselves are absolutely awesome (I don't understand why the stopped making them since they are some of the best models ever) and I think they turned out great in my painting scheme.
Please let me know what you think of them :D

More pictures will come when the rest of the unit is finished

Nice! I like the "pure" colours on the Maiden Guard, it seems very in character for them. Mine have very dark green armour and white skirts and those cloaks/whatevers

Unfortunately yes. :( I like the Maiden Guard by the way... What's the recipe for the skin?

Luna: Glad you like then, and I agree with you on the pure colours. Your own scheme sounds interesting.

Aderyn: Yes :(

Elaithnir: The skin is Bronzed Flesh, Devlan Mud, Elf Flesh.

Finally I've been able to take some new pictures :)

First up are the finished maiden guards. I'm trying to come up with ideas on what to use for the 10th one and if you have some feel free to PM me or post them here :D

Then we have a great eagle, actually it's an old wood elf model (I think) but whatever, it's a bird.

It would take alot of bits but you could build one out of the legs of an archer, the upper body of a dark elf female spearmen and the bow and arrow bit from the noble kit. Can't think of a head to use though. How good are you with green stuff and sculpting?

Hm, I have the archer legs, but only male dark elf bodies. I'm pretty crappy at sculpting, the cloaks on my dragon princes were my first attempt ever.
I plan to buy a glade rider kit to make reavers from, and they come with female bodies. I thing I might be able to make something that looks like a breast plate on one of those.

Hehe. One more annoying question. How did you do the waystone on the eagle's base? :)

It is from the plastic Mage kit. Originally it has a rune on to of it but it broke of.

Ahh cool. :) Thought you'd made it from polystyrene or something. I tried to make my own with greenstuff and it didn't end well. And it's just painted codex/white? Neat. Will have to get some of those for my bases.
