rdghuizing: Thanks, the old models aren't painted by me but as my old high elves were painted the same way they look rather good together. I think that it is about 8000 points or so, I haven't really calculated it.

ekalb: Hehe, I don't use them for anything and probably never will. Looks epic when deployed like this though ;)

I have finally finished the six spearmen, so now it is 12 down and 12 to go.
However, I'm tired of painting spears at the moment so I will take a break and paint another chariot and a BSB before I go back and finish the unit.

Those are some wicked shields :D Love em even though I'm not a fan of the models (too stiff...they should be a phalanx not lawyers)

:) Agreed. Cool shields. And you even stuck on the swords... I've never bothered since I'm too lazy...

Thank you guys, I was originally thinking about ignoring the swords, but I didn't listen to my lazy voice this time. And they look better with the swords than without.

Hi angel. I think you should give some black washes to the silver parts of those spearmen. Thats the only bad thing i can say about them =).

About the scabbards, it is the same for me hehe, always lazy to add them unless it is on characters. Adding a scabbard for me can mean 30-60mins extra per model, this is why i plan on using them only on the new DPs..

The chariot got boring to paint, and it isn't that high on the priority list yet (which is to have my current 2000 points list painted).

Instead I started work on the BSB, and I'm doing some experiments with the gold on him and I'm pretty pleased with the results so far. He is still very WIP so don't judge me yet!

Sorry for the crappy picture, didn't have a real camera at hand so I used my mobile phone instead.

I've finished the BSB now, in just over two days of painting which much be some sort of record for me ;)
I am very pleased with him, and I appreciate all your comments!

The elf itself, looks quite good. Your blue gems look very well BTW. But i would put more work onto the standard drawing as it is going to be the most visible part of the mini. Make the effort and give some lights to that metal phoenix, the blue and grey and the flames, it will be worth it!

I must say I really like the more muted/dark look on the standard. That dark blue is just amazing with white! And good job on layering the cloth - looks very smooth :o

He looks mean with that axe. :)
I like the dragon mage staff head on the standard. Might steal that idea one day!
I agree with Mir though that even just one highlight on the banner (ie, a lighter grey and a lighter blue on the very edges of the sunbeams) will make it pop. Similar to the pyramid in the background. The flames are awesome though!

I'm surprised I havn't seen this painting blog before, friggin' sweet army you've got, keep the amazing work, one question. I havn't seen this pop up yet and someone has to ask; how did you get such an amazing gem effect? I can see varnish there but there's something sneaky in the mix isn't there?

Anyway, brilliant minis!

Thank you for your kind replies, and sorry about the lack of activity for my part. My interest in warhammer reached low point in November and I haven't even been thinking about it since then. Now the interest seems to be slowly returning again so perhaps I'll post some new painted models relatively soon.

Raizon: The gems are first painted black. Then about 2/3 are painted in Regal Blue, lower ½ in Hawk Turquoise and the bottom ~1/4 or so in Ice blue in a crescent like shape. Finally a dot of Skull White in the black at the top of the gem. No varnish is used.
