#31 Post by Sturen »

Really nice army, I'm painting my chariots now and I can appriciate how hard that is :)

@whoever wanted to know how to paint the lions well mine where:

1. Bascoat black
2. cover all in khemri brown
3. Splash on Devlan mud wash
4. Re highlight with a mix of khemri brown and black
5. Pure Khemri brown
6. Blend 2-3 layers of mixing khemri brown with dheneb stone up to pure dheneb stone

For the mane:
1. Black basecoat
2. All khemri brown
3. Drybrush dheneb stone
4. Light drybrush skull white

That's what I did, hope it helps :)

EDIT: Removed WIP horses as they are finished now
Here is a WIP shot of my DP's I'm working on 5 of them but I only have 2 to this point so far.

What do you guys think of the Gold accents? I'm not sold on them but think they look pretty good.

Re: Baerion's High Elves (DP Horses 12/30)

#33 Post by Baerion »

Well since there were no comments on my horses I went ahead with the color scheme and I am pretty happy. Here are a couple shots. My basing supplies are at a friends house so I won't be able to base them for another couple weeks. The gems aren't completed either, like the archers, so I can wait and do all the gems assembly line style on them all. I also want to do some freehand on the standard at some point but with the pressures of time constraints I'm waiting for now.

As always C&C are welcome. Let me know if you think they fit well with the army with all that gold or not.

You know, some day I'll be able to get a really imaginative and well painted army off the ground. :) Some day.
I like them a lot. Tempted to go and buy a box of DP even now...

I really like the look of those. That silvery gold with the blue looks amazing!
Whats up next for the painting table?

Currently working on my Archmage! He's coming along quite well hopefully have him done by the end of the week or weekend. Then it will be time for the Dragon - which I'm very excited to get started on.

What colours do you plan on painting your dragon?
since returning to the game after a 5 year break I have had 1 massacre loss, 3 minor losses, 2 draws, 3 minor wins, 3 solid wins, 2 massacres :)

Quick question. What colours did you use for the reins on the DP? Looks like Space Wolves grey to me...

@Citizen Militia - The Dragon will be a Dark Blue/ and black colors I think. I've got the eavy' metal masterclass PDF and I was thinking I'd try to simulate that type of painting but instead of reds and oranges I'll use Regal, Enchanted and Ice blue. We'll see how it turns out. I'm thinking I'd like to do a lighter underside so when my enemies look up at the skies they might miss the dragon! =)

@Elaithnir - The DP's reigns are painted Adeptus Battlegray (foundation) then I highlight most with codex gray with a final highlight of Fortress Gray. It's similar to the shields though you can see less of the Adeptus Battlegray that I start with. However, I do use the space wolves gray as my final highlight on my dark blue before I wash it with Asurmen blue.

Nice!

Is that using some dragon mage parts?
The orb on the staff really stands out, lovely patern on it and the sword is also beutiful blending. The freehand on the cloak is immprissive aswell, simple but neatly done and not too overpowering, just subtle.

Why are his shoes not painted? :D

I believe half of the staff is from the dragon mage parts but the rest I think is from the normal mage boxed set. Maybe the head is from the dragon box too.

Thanks for the compliments. His shoes are painted though it's tough to tell. Most of the boots in my army are black, but perhaps I'll do these the brown color to tie the model together. As for the archmage having a sword...well let's just say I hope he never has to use it. :?

You're colour scheme is awesome. I love the eagle's feathers! I might get an eagle when I expand my army and will paint them like Stormwing in the Masterclass

Thanks Tomwhar. The eagles feathers were done based on the Stormwing guide that GW put out. I painted it so long ago I kinda want to go back and repaint it to fit in with my army better (dark black and gray feathers), but for now that is on hold as I have other things that need painting.

Still plugging away on the dragon - then I'll have the mage that rides it and my noble on barded steed left as well as my display board.

I have to say, the blue on your dragonprinces is absolutely gorgeous are the dragons on the shield freehand? i also love the flicks of blue flame on your archmage's cloak.

@geoguswrek - The dragons are indeed freehand. Thanks for the comments about the Dragon Princes. I think they turned out very well. I should get a more updated photo posted with their basing materials finished. Makes the models look much better in my opinion.

I finished my Dragon. See the painting guide I put together if you want to know how I painted it. Here are a few pictures:

You have surprised me twice so far Baerion, not only have you managed to create a blue colour scheme I really like but you have actually managed to make a coloured dragon I quite like too... your painting is excellent, well done

You are a fantastic painter, those Dragon Princes look SOOOO fricking magestic.

Absolutely fantastic work.

I'm not normally a fan of dark colour schemes on elves, but these are the exception to that rule!

Great looking army you've got there, and you have managed to get a blue colour scheme look really good :)
The dragon is great, but I have one suggestion. Perhaps you could give it a pupil? The eye looks a little strange without one. Just a thought, otherwise it looks amazing.

I wondered that too, perhaps a yellow pupil would look cool... it would give him a piercing stare

I love the black waystone, really looks like its made of some sort of black precious stone! The dragon is really nice, the scales on the upper leg are very very good. I think that the tongue could have an extra highlight and agree that he (or she? My dragons female :D) could do with a pupil.

THanks for all the great comments guys. I'm really glad I started this, the encouragement has really helped me stay on track and push me to get more stuff done.

I'll try and adda pupil to the dragon's eye. I may just add one more highlight of a brighter color around the edge and put the black dot in the middle? That might look good.

Thanks for noticing the black waystone Sturen. I was thinking of obsidian when I painted it, coating the entire thing in 'ardcoat.

I've got a tournament next weekend that I'm going to. Going to have to rush to get the Noble and Dragon Mage completed. #-o

Here is a picture of my DP's in their base and with basing supplies finally returned they have been finished.

Finished? or finished :P it looks like your base has rather deliberately left space for one more, I'm wonderring are they waiting for a friend? Do you plan on painting one more or running a BSB or noble with them?

I would go for a line instead for a dot to achieve a more reptile look. Your dragon princes are great :D
