So I want to use a Dragon Mage, but don't think it's worth me paying £30 for something I will only use occasionally. Now, in ages past I collected Lord of the Rings Warhammer and still have many of my models, including a Nazgul on Fell Beast. The problem is, that technically a Fell Beast is a wyvern, so I have a few questions. Do you think it will matter? How many people will even notice? Is it worth me trying to get an extra 2 legs? And finally, What size is a dragon base, it looks like 4 cavalry bases, right?
Thanks in advance for any advice

Re: Dragon Mage Conversion
As is it'll just look like a proxy. Really.
If money is an issue then just save over time and use that Fell Beast as a proxy a few weekends.
If you're still wanting a dragon in your collection get the dragon proper. The box is really, really good. You can assemble both a Prince on Dragon and a Dragon Mage and then parts for more mages and nobles. Especially the lance with (battle:))banner is sweet.

Re: Dragon Mage Conversion
The new dragon is on a chariot base (4 cavalry bases, or 50mm x 100mm), but the old one was on a normal monster base (50mm x 50mm), which I think the fell beast will probably fit better on to.
You need to make sure it doesn't look like a fell beast, so its worth adding the extra two front legs. I'm not sure from what though, unless you're good with greenstuff. How will you convert the rider (or are you swapping him entirely)?
But, as quivering says, the dragon box is excellent. I've made the prince and the dragonmage, and still had enough bits to make another mage (using archers legs) and a noble with a really big sword.

Re: Dragon Mage Conversion
Cheers for the quick replies, I had planned to just cut the head and sword off the rider, give him a mage head, make a staff and give him a book.... it didn't go too well.
I guess the thing is that at least 9/10 of my lists do not include a dragon of any description, so I don't really want to waste money on something I won't really use. At first, I didn't see a problem (unaware of the technical differences between a dragon and a wyvrn), but I'm not really sure what to do now.

Re: Dragon Mage Conversion
You could do what I did... i got the mage/mounted mage plastic kit and put the mounted mage on an old dragon, giving him the "flaming bitz" just to show he's a dragonmage, and not an arhcmage on a dragon.

Re: Dragon Mage Conversion
Hmmm... dragon mage from fell beast... I know it from somewhere... yeah! eureka! my army!
For my conversion, I used lizzy carnosaur arms, but wh40k tyranid warriors have some good parts too . And I sculpted some round scales from GS (easy work, but very, very long and boring )
About the rider - I can promise you - nazgul rider is not a good model to start with!! DM with tattered and rugged clothes?? Definitely not a good idea I suggest you just to build him from some parts from bits box - and make sure your rider's legs aren't too big, cause the beast is quite "thin"
Good luck with conversion
