Looking for a bit of help with a High Elf Army Theme

Since I've decided to go with High Elves for a while, I've been doing a lot of looking around for ideas on how I want to paint and present these guys. Blue appears to be the most common color, which can be expected, but I want something a little different for my elves.

Having read the lore behind these guys, I feel that I want to make them a bit more menacing considering all the stuff they've been through. I can't imagine that the continual onslaught of Druchii and the lovely re-appearances of daemons can leave people so joyous all the time.

I've found a theme I want, and it's one that I'm familiar since I'm a recovering WoW addict:

I think it'd look good, but is it feasible? I'm just wondering how I'd effectively apply the colors to say my White Lions Unit. Any feedback would be appreciated!
