quick question...does it snow in Caledor? if not...where?
For the dwarfs, there was only this. Hammerson met Grombrindal’s gaze, and the White Dwarf nodded slowly. If it must be done, let it be done well. Whether they were dead or alive, that was the only way dwarfs knew how to do anything.
And Grombrindal said "10 from the back, yeah?"

I use snow on my caledor bases, it's quick and easy with a good method so just go for it.

Blues? Well... I never really thought of them as having blue colors (not even GW painted them blue). Shadow Grey mixed with Chaos Black on armour, then wash with Balck Ink/Water mix and highlight with a brighter Shadow Grey/Chaos Black mix. Thats how I doo it, it is really neat.Alpoco wrote:Im into a sorta, shadow warrior thing going on i take it that nagarythe, but im using regal blue and hawk turquoise.
Your = Possessive form of You. Example: Your car is nice.
You're = Contraction of You and Are. Example: You're a fool Ferretsnarf. =P
And for the record: I hate this typo more than any other.

To top all the regional colours i think there should be like National colours to add...I liked the idea for White to be the national or provincal which ever word u would like to use to be for all of the high elves. Lastly we must also add a colour for Outlaws, the HE of which are not following the nobles but act on there own such as the Shadow warriors which i have are midnight blue, black, and chainmail so something like that for people who are not from a city but more of a band, or group of mercenaries...

Shadow warriors follow the orders of the prince. They make up the army of Nagarythe, they're not just rogue elves looking for a good time. Also there wouldn't be a national color scheme for a HE army because there is no national army. Each province maintains its own army and uses the colors from that province. When a large army is needed several provinces come together to make a giant army, they're not going to repaint everything and change their robes to make a unified army color scheme.the HE of which are not following the nobles but act on there own such as the Shadow warriors

That's naggaroth. Nagarythe was Malekith's province and really the only place he has a claim to a throne although after the shadow crown was stolen buy Alith Anar, another famous nagarythian, Malekith doesn't even have that anymore.

colors
I agree with Prince Elileth, the regional troops aren't going to repaint or dress different just because they are fighting in a different region in a large battle. Thats the whole reason I came to this post was to get ideas to depict a couple of regions' colors in my army.

What are your opinions on leaving out the white robes? It seems to be pretty standard, but I'm doing a pure Nagarythean army so wanted them to look a bit darker...the robes are black, with greys and greens for most of the rest. I'm using off-whites for certain details to provide contrast.

DAM HTML CODE WONT WORK!!!
My army is themed around being descendants from the tower of starts who left at the summons of the Pheonix King only to return to their tower decimated. The island is known for its horse bla bla bla. Anyway I wont put the whole story up now but what colors are you thinking might be good??? I want it to represent stars and night but not be too dark and menacing....

Thanks to all for this very good post.
I now know what my army scheme correponds to (I initially wanted something different).
So I'm from Eataine having used light purple as a second colour after white.
You can view how it looks like to be from Eataine here:

Hmmm, I think a point was missed here. I's great that armies be painted to look like they originate from a certain area, but there's one main problem.
Say you have an Eataine army, mostle blues and whites etc. If you put in White Lions, should they bee in Chrace colours, and Dragon Princes in the Greens Reds etc. of Caledor, Shadow Warriors in the greys etc. of Nagarythe. In background terms, would soldiers from elite units be expected to don the local colours if they join a local army. It's difficult to imagine, especially for Dragon Princes and Nagarythe troops, who are especially proud of their region's heritage.

colors
I think the elites would wear their own colors; I can't see where anyone would go,"Hey guys we need to be color cordinated" or "we can't fight yet because our new clothes aren't made". I fully intend to have 2 spear units wearing different colors from their own regions.
interesting thoughts Paraicj...
I was told a couple days ago that my army (not fully painted yet but will be for the tournament this upcoming weekend) would not score well for presentation. Now I'm not as good as a painter but their point to me was to have a uniformed colour for everyone. I brought up exactl the same point as you did. Elves in the past may have worn similar colours while exploring abroad, but now that they are more focused on defending themselves in their own island. This to me meant each unit would be of different colours unless they came from the same region.
I'll find out this weekend how that arguement fairs against the judges.

Mine are all the same because they ain't shadow warriors or swordmasters or whatever, they're a unit from Caledor with a seperate name and I don't like the ununifified look seperate colours give.

You can have unifying colors and still have units be individualistic. For example, a fairly typical elf army would use white as a unifiying color, and then have extra colors by unit. Other options are to use a certain metallic color throughout or have matching detail parts--belts, sashes, and whatnot.

I'm not saying that a unified HE army is bad, in fact, my whole army is white with red trim. I did however give the swordmasters and Phoenix guard some blue, give gold armour to the Dragon Princes and give grey and crimson to the Shadow warriors. In terms of painting, a unified theme looks great. However, the high elves are a disparate race.
I think it would be very unfair if Denomic was docked points for his (her?) paint scheme as long as it has good background, which it does!
