1200 points for beardy tourney

#1 Post by Chracian »

In a couple of weeks I'll be entering the Pennine Pillage, a 1200 point, 4 scenario tournament One of the scenarios is mud (slows cavalry down), one is fog (limited visibilty). I'm struggling at this level, as it seems you can't fit nearly enough in. Beardiness is encouraged, which I'm not sure high elves can really do.

Anyway, this is what I've come up with:

Noble, amulet of fire, helm of fortune, barded elven steed, halberd, heavy armour, 154
10 archers, 110
15 Phoenix guard, full command, banner of arcane protection, 280
9 Swordmasters, 135
5 Dragon princes, musician, standard bearer, lion standard, 205
Tiranoc chariot, 85
5 shadow warriors, 80
Repeater bolt thrower, 100
Eagle, 50

Total 1199

I've really tried to keep the character cost down (hence no mages, but some magic resistance instead). The swordmasters might seem a funny number, but I couldn't think what else to get after putting 7 in. Some will die anyway.

Comments and criticisms most welcome. Please feel free to tear this to shreds and tell me I'm on completely the wrong track!

Alternatively:
Dragon mage, level 2, silver wand, guardiand phoenix 420
17 spears, FC, lion standard 203 (or 20 w/FC, 205)
15 phoenix guard, FC 255
Lion chariot 140
5 shadow warriors 80
RBT 100

Toatal 1198

I like both lists and am partial to the dragon mage especially at this point level. However, it isn't packing much punch in terms of combat, so I think the first version would perform better in that sense. You may want to consider just running the DP's naked and boosting the sword masters even more.
Battle Standard Bearer. Don't leave home without it.

I like the idea of the second list. However, I think that at 1200 pts with two big blocks you have too many blocks designed to hold the enemy and not enough hitting power. I would change it slightly:

Dragon mage, level 2, silver wand, guardiand phoenix 420
17 spears, FC, lion standard 203 (or 20 w/FC, 205)
5 Dragon Princes 150
Lion chariot 140
5 shadow warriors 80
RBT 100
RBT 100

Comes in at 1193.

Has a lot more hitting power, mobility and the ability to dictate the movement of your opponent (with the RBTs, Dps and Lion chariot)

If you want the PG, I would change the spears to archers for something like this:
Dragon mage, level 2, silver wand, guardiand phoenix 420
10 archers 110
15 phoenix guard, FC 255
6 Swordmaster 90
Lion chariot 140
5 shadow warriors 80
RBT 100

1195

I prefer the first as it has more hitting power but the second can work ok I think.

Thanks fro the replies. I like your first list rod. Even more thoughts:

Mage, level 2, silver wand, ring of fury 185
Mage, level 2, seer, scroll, steed 197
10 archers 110
15 phoenix guard, FC, banner of sorcery 305
5 silver helms, shields, musician 123
5 shadow warriors 80
2 RBTs 200
1200

Now that's lots of magic and some shooting, but no fighting. The 2nd mage has a horse because a) he can deploy with the silver helms initially b) the 3rd scenario involves keeping 300-600 points in reserve, the mage and silver helms would be best for this.

I would have reavers instead of silver helms but they're not fully painted up.

Any thoughts on this? Cheers.
