killing stunties in close combat
Any suggestions on a list to kill Dwarfs that is close combat focussed, but doesn't use a dragon? What do you think of this?
Prince, Cloak of the Beards, White Sword, Guardian Phoenix
Noble, BSB, cavalry kit, Helm of Fortune, Sword of Might
Noble, Armour of Caledor, great weapon
10 archers (maybe hold a table quarter)
21 spears, FC (5x4, extra guy is the odd points)
5 Dragon Princes
5 Dragon Princes
25 Phoenix Guard, FC, war banner
14 Swordmasters, FC, Standard of Balance, Talisman of Loec
7 Swordmasters
2 RBTs
2 Eagles
Prince with the Swordmasters, BSB with Phoenix Guard, Noble with spears. DPs, Eagles and shooters go for Dwarf shooters.
Little Swordmasters will get shot up, but a couple survivors can still be useful.

Your prince is horribly vulnerable, unless I'm missing something.

Yes, but that seems the only way I might hurt a Dwarf Lord in close combat. Even a Thain will be really hard to kill, while the Cloak of the Beards and the White Sword make it a lot more likely. What would you suggest instead, besides avoiding the Dwarf Lord?orka wrote:Your prince is horribly vulnerable, unless I'm missing something.

Prince:
-GW
-Armour of Caledor
-Talisman of Saphery
-Cloak of Beards
Nullify his armour, you should kill him.
If you don't, negate his weapon runes so he shouldn't kill you.

Drop the PG, and take WL in my opinion. S4 just doens't cut it, while the woods and lion cloak will help against the shooting - not as much as the wardsave, but some.

Say he's immune to KB and has three runic items, it's a big gamble.

Re: killing stunties in close combat
Not convinced the third character is worth having, and I'd like more capability to hunt war machines, so I'm thinking of actually taking Silver Helms. They can tie up a Dwarf shooting unit just as well as DPs, and you get more resistance to shooting for the points.
drop the third character, the little Swordmasters, and a few PG to add two 115 pt units of Silver Helms and put Ellyrion on a DP unit.
Or is the Battle Banner a good idea here?

Re: killing stunties in close combat
Only take the PG if you're going to take the battle banner IMHO. They just don't have the killing strength needed to accumulate the res with wounds. White Lions are better for that but even with the lion cloaks they still don't survive in my experience. Too much armor piercing to make a difference.
Battle Standard Bearer. Don't leave home without it.

you should make him move twice in order to fire at your troops. That works. Try to hunt artillery as good you can.

Re: killing stunties in close combat
you should get a noble on eagle with the sword that takes away armorsaves. Blade of seagold i think it's called. Use that with enchanted shield ^^
get into combat fast, hit on 3+ and wound on 4+. no saves. also good for killing dwarf heroes.

Arent the lords toughness 5? Greatweapon + Loec would probably be more reliable.

Maybe Null Stone him as well, with a unit of Swordmasters the damage capacity is absurd...

Re: killing stunties in close combat
null stone bunker might actually be your best bet. Dont let Prince get in CC against anything dangerous. White lions into the dwarf lord's unit will eventually kill him off. swordmasters will own all others I think, just keep prince near by in some spears or something.
For the dwarfs, there was only this. Hammerson met Grombrindal’s gaze, and the White Dwarf nodded slowly. If it must be done, let it be done well. Whether they were dead or alive, that was the only way dwarfs knew how to do anything.
And Grombrindal said "10 from the back, yeah?"
