What kind of list should I take against Warriors of Chaos?

Going to face a WoC player tomorrow night for 2250pts....

I have only played once before against this opponent and I wouldn't say it is anything to learn from...

That being said what is my best chance of winning against this type of army?

Star Dragon. They have one realistic solution - Gateway. Take a couple scroll caddies and the only way he touches the Star Dragon is rolling double 6s. (which isn't that unlikely with a "Gateway FTW" army, but its your best bet).

Alternatively, a standard defensive magic heavy list, but with Swordmasters.

What is a gateway?

its the # 6 spell for tzeentch lore. 2d6 hits at 2d6 strength if they roll 11 or 12 for strength the unit is removed from the game.

lore of beasts and lore of metal works great against them. With beast cowers the other day his heavy cav never made it halfway across the board.

White lions work great against his infantry with the banner of lion courage. Sword masters can be very useful because he will have little or no shooting.

An eagle is very usefull as bait and flee against his frenzy units.

I like playing the WoC for normally it is a good game. Star dragon works but that one spell can remove him quickly.

I have played against them with a magic heavy list and won with one lose also.

Star dragon has been successfull also with a draw because he got that spell off late in the game.

This saturday a victory with a korhil in a lion chariot, white lion themed army and only two 2nd level mages. He had a 4th and 2nd but had really bad magical phases. I had two dispell scrolls and still had one at the end of the game.

so if I take a unit of white lions, and 1 or 2 units of Sword Masters..

I was thinking of taking at least 2 RBT and one eagle... Would it be worth taking a 3rd RBT?

how many mages should I take?

Also how many dispel scrolls would be advisable? And what spells should I be looking to use the dispel scrolls on?


I usally take a unit of 20 phoenix guard as my main unit, is that advisable?

Phoenix guard will not stand up to a block of chaos warriors most of the time I think.

You are better off with Sword Masters.

It is a tricky call as to how magic heavy to go. He will most likely have the infernal puppet which can be bad if you miscast. But spirit of the forge can kill his army...

seems like most WoC lists are "heavy" magic, aka lv4+lv2+lv2 or BSB.

but our magic is better than theirs. just watch out for gateway and Buboes (basic spell for nurgle lore) it ignores armor saves for the selected model... and S4

everything except marauders are at least T4/S4. shoot anything that is big like Dragon ogres or trolls or ogres or Shaggoths, cause they dont have much armor
