Of the Mage and the Proud Caledorian

#1 Post by Laicamir »

Set in the early reign of Caledor the First this is a cautionary tale from Saphery showing how even the feared dragon princes at the height of their power are inferior to mages. In Caledor this tale is know as The Deceit of Those Who Misuse Dragons and The Brave Death of Those Who Would Stop Them.

On a Autumn's afternoon in Caledor sat a mage,
and a Dragon Prince, Mightiest Warriors of the age.

The mage was peacefully drinking his tea,
when the dragon prince said "I have a bone to pick with thee".

"You awoke a dragon just to fly away,
to the far land of Cathay".

"To purchase tea, your a disgrace,
to our wonderful elvish race".

And with that he knocked the tea out of the mages hand,
onto his robes making a stain the colour of sand.

With that the mage unleashed a furious howl,
"How dare you, I shall crush thee now".

As the prince drew his sword,
the mage calmly directed his spell at the lord".

As the smoke cleared from the magical wreckage,
all that remained of the knight was a cabbage.

Caledorians have a Committee for the Misuse of Dragons? What did he dragon in question say to the misuse? And of course, it would be more stylish to transmute the Dregon Prince into pile of tea leaves, but I guess we can't have everything.

If he was made into tea then It would be wasteful to burn him, the dragon doesn't mind, it also enjoys tea :D

You didn't mention burning before... But anyway, it is really hard to make a dragon do something he doesn't want. Perhaps Caledorians do it all wrong. They should not try to wake the dragons for war, but for an exotic trip.

Well with the amount a cabbages being transmuted he had to find some use for them, and fire is fun

And from what I hear there are no dwaven cannons in Cathay so it's win-win*, but the Caledorians Against the Misuse of Dragons Association will just rant on and on about how it disgraces there noble linage.

I suspect they have fireworks in Cathay. :D They were highly inspired by tea drinking dragons.

Here I have something for you. Lord Tinwal kindly agreed to reenact part of this tale so I could take pictures. I modeled and painted the cabbage long ago. Please don't ask me why.

Exceeding praises upon you and Lord Tinwal, the fact that you have modelled a cabbage is amazing. I shall have to have Archmage Laicamir send you his recipe for cabbage stew

I have been known to do strange things from time to time. Thanks in advance for the recipe. I will not eat this cabbage, but it can be used for ordinary ones I believe. :D

This makes me wan't to form some form of role-play based on a feast at Tor Lossaurel with everyone's army's leaders, but to do that the C.A.T.M.O.D.A. would have to be removed, and they make such good food for my pet lions, and what kind of insane prince would travel to a freezing castle in Tiranoc just for hot water with leaves in it.

It would need some cunning plot. And please be kind to the Caledorians, it's really their parent's fault they are this way. ;)

I have no problem with Caledorians, only with members of the aforementioned association, who keep coming to protest on Tor Lossaurel's lawn bowling green, Archmage Laicamir is greatly angered when he and the frozen guard can't play.

They clearly have no idea what is important. But still, can't you get them to play? ;)

Perhaps it is time to get new stock of teas from Cathay or even Nippon. Let them follow...

Tea from Nippon, I did not think of that, because Tibbels is sleeping I shall have to take the ship, although Laicamir gets sea sick, and It's hard to play Lawn Bowls without a lawn?

It is not easy to play on dragonback aslo, I guess. I don't know really, never played. But well, I can tell my seafaring brother Alcaran to get some nice fresh tea leaves. He can't stay at one place much longer than his ship is restocked anyway. Then I can try to persuade Ningor to fly with me (and the tea) and land on your C.A.T.M.O.D.A. misused lawn. She will like that, I bet.

Excellent, I shall have tea and my lawn bowling green back, I am deeply indebted to you, while I can't bowl on a dragon I can summon a magical chessboard and play him as we fly. When he wakes up I will also need to go to Stirland in the Empire, my old friend Count Redfang is a noble there (and his lived very long for a human), he says he has planed something special for next time I visit his rather dark gloomy castle.

We'll see what my brother brings back from his travels to the East. And well, some of these Counts are extremely long lived. I doubt they enjoy tea though.

I wonder if I could find a miniature tea set to attach to his chariot.

You will need a few pins and toothpicks and some water, and time and patience (I lack here), but it certainly is fun.
