Strife over Tlaxis

Turn 2

All the races have started expanding their initial footholds on each of the planets, and mobilization is underway. The natral habitants of the planets have already collided with these new powers, and everyone treats these natives in their own way, some diplomatically, others quite rashly...
The large amount of propaganda around the sector has risen tensions in the swampy planet of Cidrax, where the starsawn oppressors have a growing mutiny to take care of as the many slaves they use have risen to the barricades inspired by the brave and promising words of propaganda.
All the while when armies march ever forward in the names of their lieges, discreet diplomatic meetings have already ensued, and the first alliance has been announced. The Morning Star Union and the Lanteans have joined forces in an alliance called The Serenity, in an attempt to bring peace to the sector. Be that through military might or diplomacy, they've got the cards for both.

Names and descriptions of planets:
The planet names correspond with the letter they start with (Antrix is the planet with A as the letter, Borexis with B and so on. The only exception is Tlaxis prime which is the H planet)

Antrix
A desert planet. Most of the planet surface covered in sand desert, nothing but sand and rock for the most part, but with a couple ruined cities of some long- gone civilization. Also some oases are to be found amidst the wasteland, and mostly there is a rich groundwater covering the entire planet, making farming possible, yet difficult.
Antrix is also favoured by the pirates as a location for a home base bacause it is easy to hide in a place no- one wants to go into...

Borexis
This planet is mountainous with volcanic activity present, with valleys and heights in equal measure. A very challenging environment to travel, but very easy to defend if one chooses the spot right. The mid temperature is close to zero, except where the volcanoes are located. These are unsurprisinlgy very warm areas, and some volcanic valleys are even good for farming and living, with the downside of the volcanoes possibly erupting...

Cidrax
This planet is quite balanced in its climate, except for some large swamps that are scattered all around the planet. These marshes are treacherous at best, and suicidal at worst, and the inhabitants of the marshes do not contribute to the hospitality of them... But who knows what has been lost in to them during the centuries... Outside of the marshes life is quite normal, the soil is fertile and the ground offers the basic minerals for industry.

Derxix
This planet is in many means the planet best suited for life in the star system. Like earth, it has enough good soil to use as plantations, enough water to drink and travel upon and enough minerals and different resources to use for industry. This makes the planet strategically very important.

Elparx
This is no actual planet, but a moon of Tlaxis prime, even though a very large one. As a moon, it has no atmosphere of its own, so nothing grows here, this is but a rock. The only thing that makes this moon worth its existance is the large mineral reserves it has hidden deep inside its bowels...

Frezi
This planet is covered in jungle spanning the entire planet. Only small bodies of water no bigger than lakes and rivers are scattered all around the lush forests of Frezi. This makes an ideal living climate for all types of curious life forms, and because of that, the animal presence of Frezi is astounding. The Wertia have many research facilities located here to study the species of every possible animal and plant.

Granvad
this planet is located the furthest from the star system´s sun, which makes it a very cold place. There is a permanent winter, the soil is covered in snow and ice all year roundm byt still it's endurable by humans, at least if they have somehwere to shelter from the cold. The wertians have some research stations with artificial climate systems, so theu can even irrigate there, which would otherwise be impossible. Rumours say that the frozen outer section hides within itself great natural treasures...

Tlaxis prime
This planet belongs to the Wertia corporation. The whole planet is one big city where the wertians live and research. They have remote research stations on every planet but this is the capital of their "empire". Not much else is known by outsiders, as they are only let to trade on the most remote area of the planet, and not enter deeper.

Excerpt from the field reports of Commisar Allende of the 936th Fists of Labour division, attached to the troopship Savannah:

...a strange rift. Major General Cavash proposes investigating, and the soldiers' councils concur. FIASS must know of this unexpected development, and so close to our core systems! I am moving out with a team of commandos and engineers...

...the engines have stopped functioning as we approach the rift. I mandated that vote was to be held, and we decided to proceed with the investigation while broadcasting our findings on a continual basis...

...advised us that we may have entered a new section of space entirely. Certainly our star charts are nothing like this...

...extensive damage to the
Savannah as she passed through...

...escort ships
Firestorm and Ach-Charaii Combine have joined us...

...the rift still there? To any Syndicates who pick up this transmission, this is a priority alpha distress call. Repeat, priority...

...stranded on a strange planet. No signs of habitation, and the environment is quite harsh, though we should be able to survive...

...sent a small craft back to try to find the rift. Volunteers are risking their lives...

...our engineers have set up a temperated base camp to deal with the cold...

...no word yet, though we were in a rather inaccessible location...

...we can only assume that disaster has befallen our comrades. They will be mourned...

...establishing settlement....

...provisional name Command Post 1. Until we recieve word, we will have to establish ourselves here. This is Commisar Augusto Allende, signing off.

"Sir, the signal's scrambled our plans even before they began" said the young ensign aboard the Heavenly Sword. His eyes and hands moved unbelievably quickly as he examined the information the ship's AI fed him. "The numbers don't add up, we're off-course." He dared a quick glance at his commander upon his chair. Briareos Gilliam observed the planet in front of them, leaning slightly forwards. The commander-in-chief of the 513th Aggressive Recon Fleet wasn't worried, they were always in unknown territory, that was the purpose of the AggRec fleets. The strange anomaly that had appeared near them must be what caused the scrambling of their instruments. Gilliam turned away from the planet to the ship's communicatios officer. "Inform the fleet, we'll land there. Standard procedure upon landing."

The communications officer nodded and issued the orders. All across the fleet crews scrambled to positions in orderly and disciplined fashion. Within minutes the fleet was ready to begin planetfall. "Sir, the fleet is ready and awaiting your command" he reported. Gilliam's brow furrowed in thought "At the moment we don't know our location, but that can be determined soon. The circumstances are against us, but we can wrest control, we can alter the circumstances. What we need is what we already possess: a will of steel, unafraid to struggle and bleed." he rose up and walked to the obesrvation window. "From above it seems so peaceful. A mirror of how it used to be. But soon in the distance a virus-like winnowing fire in a satellite feed consumes all you see. Commence operation Liquid Sun!"

The entire fleet was poised for planetfall without a hitch and soon drop pods and drop ships started to ferry troops to the planet's surface. Aboard one such ship commander Deunan Knute flexed her arms and rubbed her wrists. A veteran of countless battles and a warrior without a peer in the entire Dnalnifian arm of the MSU military she was looking forwards to the new challenges of the strange new world. Around her her troops were joking and boasting, talking about the heroics and feats of skill and bravery they'd perform against whomever they were facing. Reports had come in that scout ships of the hated UAC had been sighted and every soldier in the fleet was eager to take on their sworn enemies. To an outside observer the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers seemed undisciplined and green. Deunan smiled. In combat, her troops were peerless. "Listen up troops, you’re here to win this. Hakkaa päälle!" she spoke into her helmet speaker. A resounding "Hakkaa päälle!" exploded though the audio channels and she smiled again. She almost felt sorry for whoever was beneath them.

Gilliam looked at the landing craft and smiled. He felt the power of the Heavenly Sword underneath him. He could've burnt the entire planet to glass at his whim, but he remembered the oath of a ship's captain. "From the sky you can push a button and thousands die in a split second. But in the trenches great flames of apocalypse rain from an angel of death come to reckon, the wrath of the noble warrior" he recited to himself quietly a part of the Oath. The weapons of the fleet would be used to protect the ground forces from orbital threats.

As the drop ships and drop pods hit the sand and their assault doors opened the armed might of the Morning Star Union spread out, securing large areas quickly. Locating urban centers they swept through them quickly and efficiently, eliminating what little opposition they faced cleanly and with skill. Commander Knute entered what must once have been an administrative center and nodded. "Inform the Admiral-General: Drop Fleet 75 has accomplished it's first mission, we have secured a landing zone. The Morning Star Union is free to act on this theatre"

'Dropping out of hyper-space in 3... 2... 1... engaging sublight engines.'

The view in front of Jentus changed from streams of milky blue to a vast expanse of black, punctuated by the whiteness of the stars in the distance. He turned to the officer behind him, who stood at a large array of consoles and screens.

'Carry out ship link-up, ensure that we've all arrived.'

The man was quite for a few moments, before looking up and nodding. 'All ships report safe entry to the system. The Perseus ships Phoenix and Glory of the Ancients have split from the fleet, escorted by The Gorgon. They estimate rendezvous in 2 days.'

'And damage?'

'Illiad is reporting engine failure, looks like they burned through their power converters, and several other ships are having various issues, nothing serious.'

Nodding, Jentus turned to the communications officer next to him. 'Get The Orion. Put Larrin on-screen'.

The vie changed again, this time replacing the stars the face of a woman. 'Begin the landing sequence Jentus,' said Larrin, glancing down to look at some read-out or other off the screen.

'Aye Councilor, but is this really the best place to land? There are many planets here, many settled.' He looked down at his own screen, 'and I'm getting reports of ships entering the system all around us. It looks like there is a mass gathering of races occurring - they all have different energy signatures.'

'Jentus,' Larrins face grew stern. 'The people have been living on nothing for the last 3 months, we've not had a successful landing for nearly 3 years. Many of the ships are failing, and simply not reporting it as they cannot afford to fall behind The Destiny. The population is too large, we have to land for at least as long as we can re-supply.

With a resigned sigh, Jentus nodded, bowed, and switched the screen off. He sighed again and switched it back on. This time, he was greeted with a large disheveled man. 'Marcus.'

'Aye captain. Are we commencing planet fall?'

'We are. The Ancients be with you commander.'

Marcus nodded, and turned away from the screen, punching a large button on the wall behind him. 'All ships, this is Commander Marcus Hengar of the Destiny. We are to engage planet fall, all first waves enter their positions.'

Across the mighty Lantean fleet, thousands of men and women, already prepared began their operation to enter an unknown planet. As hundreds and hundreds of Medusa troop-transports skimmed out of the capital ships, each carrying a full squad of infantry, drop troopers began the hair raising decent into the main rural areas around the planet to secure them, the few populated areas were surprised as, out of nowhere heavily armed men materialized out of thin air, quickly subduing any armed response from the backwater planet. Within the half hour, the entire sector of the planet had been secured and the population confined until it was safe to release.

'Planet secured, few casualties. Bring them in.'

Above, the sky grew red as the atmosphere burned from the hundreds of ships landing planet wide.
'The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.'

"...and three, two, one, restore mass!" Fleet Admiral Harper commanded. His flagship, UACS Imminent Destruction stopped suddenly, as the ship's mass returned to normal.

"Casualty report", the Admiral ordered. "Two ships were lost, Admiral. They hit an asteroid", the communications liaison answered. Harper nodded. Two ships was an acceptable loss.

"How's our target destination?"

"Planet 00114, codename Fury, is covered by dense jungle. Lots of biological activity", the topography liaison answered. Another farm planet, Harper thought. But it could potentially hide valuable minerals. "All right, create a landing zone. Equatorial region, use six 1MT devices and a single 15MT device. I want it clean and flat."

The ship shook as it fired seven large missiles. Soon a large area of fire could be seen on the surface of the planet. After it subsided, a brownish-grey rocky spot was visible among the otherwise verdant green surface.

"I'm going to brief the commanders now. Contact UACS Ravenous Cadaver." Harper left the bridge and went to his private quarters. As he got there, Colonel Hohlraum, commander of the Ravenous Cadaver and its Corpse Brigade attachment, was already on the communications screen. "Admiral Harper", he whissed, the skull mask covering his hideous, deformed face. "Colonel, your Brigadiers will descend first into the landing zone and clear it of any hostiles. And no ritualistic murders this time! If you meet humans who surrender, you accept their surrender!" Harper shouted. Hohlraum gargled, like he was drowning in his own bile. "They were not humans, but filthy xenospecies! They needed to be terminated lest they pose a threat to our troops", the Colonel barked. "So you say, but when I checked the remains, they appeared quite human to me", Harper responded. "Also, our Militia liaisons aboard your ship have complained that some of your men broke into the chemical weapon storage and opened a few of the canisters, in order to get drunk! I don't care if your freak show is capable of inhaling and surviving those gases, they are toxic and for weapons-use only! You got that?" Harper shouted.

"End transmission. Contact UACS Armageddon Rising", Harper ordered. An armored figure appeared on the screen. "This is Steel Brother Rheinholdt, the ship's second-in-command. Our commander, Knight-Captain Ferrous is quelling a riot among the Crimson in the holds." Harper sighed. The Crimson were always fighting something, this time each other. Were it up to him, only Brotherhood of Steel troops would be allowed to travel on expeditions. “Brother Rheinholdt, after you’ve quelled the insurrection order your Crimson to gear up. They’re going after the Corpse Brigade to secure a landing zone. Create a perimeter in the jungle. End transmission”, Harper ordered.

“Send a message to the rest of the fleet: UACS Subversive Death first to land, after that UACS Suffering of the Weak and the rest of the ships”, Harper ordered. Soon this planet would be under total UAC control.

This is the Drachons pride calling the flagship, Drachons peace, we are in low orbit over verdant planet, preliminary scans shows good soil, good place for expansion. Requesting persmission to land.

This is the Drachons Peace, commence landing. Set up perimeters and let the will of the people be done.

+++warning, warning, warning+++

The warninglights flashes across the deck of the capital ships as the long range detectors spot several other fleets, then the metallic voice of the computer system speaks. +MULTIBLE FLEETS DETECTED+WARNING+GRAVITY-PULL+

Damnation! The planet has caught our fleet in the gravity, we cannot leave here till we have established a proper base and set up the technology to circumvent the gravity pull. This is the commander to the rest of the fleet, we are forced to land, may the Drachons spirit be with us, and may the other fleets prove peacefull.
I love pushing around my small delicatedly painted dolls together with the rest of you.

Strife over Tlaxis

"With the space rupture call complete, we should now begin receiving new things to research..."
- Horin Randall, Chief of research

Turn 0

"It would seem our study about the space ruptures was correct. Our space call seems to be working. Already ships of some alien race seem to enter the vicinity of Tlaxis. And here come more from another race. This will be most thrilling I say, receiving more subjects of research and not having to travel anywhere to collect samples! Quite handy indeed!"
"This is great news indeed. Go prepare the monitor, and inform all research stations. We have work to do..."

The usually silent star system of Tlaxis has had it's peace disturbed by multiple sightings of space ships arriving. The first to arrive was the recon fleet of the morningstar union, and right behind them the UAC. These representatives of the two huge interplanetary unions filled with eagerness to explore this system that had mysterically appeared from nowhere.
After them the FIASS and the lanteans arrived. The FIASS also seeking to expand their power, and the lanteans simply looking for a new place to call home, trying surface living for once.
After them, it just kept getting weirder. Some explorers from the aelian race appeared, intent on exploring, habiting and benefit from the rich natural resources and climatic differences of the system.
Not soon after the arrival of the morning star union, another contesting race was noticed, namely the Kale´Dhorrians. These humanoids seemed intent on the same things as everyone else, colonisation and exploring.
Finally, the Cult of cthulhu emerged from its hiding place deep within the Cidrax swamps, where it had been safely harboring its plans of world dominion.
With the arrival of all the races in such a short span of a few days, the leaders of every race start to wonder how this could be a coincidence. A question on which they would get the answer soon enough.

Briareos looked over the readings and nodded to the ensign. So they weren't alone in this strange new system. Out of the other factions present he had determined the potential challenges, certain enemies and potential allies. "Do we have communications with the first faction?" he asked the communications officer, who nodded "Yes sir, we have established contact and they're ready to come aboard to negotiate". The Admiral-General rose and motioned a recruit to turn on the communication channel.

"This is Admiral-General of the Morning Star Union's 513th Aggressive Recon Fleet and commander of the Morning Star Union forces in this region of space. To whom am I speaking to?" the holoscreen showed a powerful female figure, a human by appearances. She had an air of authority about her and Briareos could see why she was chosen to speak on behalf of her people "I am Larrin Denthis, head of the Lantean council speaking from aboard the Destiny. I am told that you've contacted us to propose a treaty of some sort?" her brown eyes betrayed no emotion. Briareos nodded "It is my belief that your people would benefit greatly from the strenght of the Morning Star Union and that your own strenght would be a great asset to us. Thus I invite you onboard the Heavenly Sword to discuss the terms of the agreement." Larrin seemed to be considering the matter for a moment, then nodded "Agreed, but I will bring an honour guard with me. When would be a good time to meet?" "At your earliest convenience councellor. We'll be ready for you and your escort" Briareos replied, not the slightest offended that the councellor demanded to have guards. To him, that spoke of the respect the Lanteans had for the strenght of the MSU and the prudent nature of Larrin, an admirable trait in the Union. The woman smiled "We can meet right away Admiral-General. We can be at your ship in an hour" Briareos nodded "Looking forwards to it".

As the Lantean shuttle docked, they were met by an honour guard of the Morning Star Union. As the Lanteans stepped out of the shuttle, even the hardened marines were a bit taken back by what they saw. Standing a full head over the Lanteans, the Praetorian Cyborgs formed a path to Briareos who himself was flanked by a pair of blue skinned...aliens? Outwards Larrin seemed calm and assured, but inwards she thought that maybe she should've brought more men. Walking to Briareos she greeted him in the traditional Lantean way and Briareos returned the gesture. "Welcome aboard the Heavenly Sword councellor." he said with a smile. "I trust that this will be the beginning of a strong relationship between our people"

From a digital leaflet distributed throughout the system:

...the only logical conclusion to this system is violence. Well, let violence answer violence! Their economic sanctions and their exploitative businesses will do them no good when facing down the barrel of a gun. Organise, take to the streets, and know that another way is possible - a way in which you are not exploited, in which none are unfairly harmed by another's actions.

Organise, and take the battle to the oppressors! Organise, and seize your factories. If you have the guns and the means to make them, the corrupt militaries of this system will soon be far too strained to fight.

To the victor goes the right of forming a new social order. FIASS is with you. The Revolutionary Guard will do what it can to assist, but change can only come from below, or the system of violence and repression will only be continued...

Excerpt from a system-wide broadcast on all channels:

"...rise up against your leaders, those, who would plague your minds with petty thoughts and corrupt ideals! Stand up, free and proud! You do not need to listen to the tyrants and warlords who would sacrifice your lives and dwellings for their personal gain! The oppressors must die! Only you and none other have the right to the sweat of your brow! Demand that which is your birth-right! Cast down your malevolent dictators! The time vindication has come! Those who are willing to hear the call of freedom, UAC will answer! Our unlimited resources, our innumerable free men-at-arms are here to help you take your place in this galaxy! The ranks of the free are already eternal, immeasureable and utterly determined! Join and bolster the galactic revolution for peace and prosperity! Come hell or high fury, we will aid you! Let slip the dogs of war, for the last war, the war to end all wars and bring eternal peace in the galaxy is nigh! The hour redemption of draws near! For such is the glory of the Sovereign State of the United Aerospace Corporation and of the free man!"

His opponent was faster and far more agile than him. Dodging the heavy blows of his massive weapon with taunting ease, his prey eluded him. Rarely had Chuhan been so angry at an opponent. Rarely had he enjoyed himself so much.

Her opponent was far larger and stronger than she was. Attacking with powerful swings that would crush her if even one made contact he kept the initiative as he stayed on the offenisive. With his superior reach he kept her too far to launch an attack of her own. Lyueral loved every second of this dance.

The two combatants were as different as night and day, the Chratian towering over the much smaller Khe'er. Their fighting styles were as different as their appearances, the Khe'er using her natural agility and speed while the Chratian using his immense strenght and reach. To all who witnessed the duel it was clear that these two were exemplars of their kind.

”Stay still and fight elf!” Chuhan roared as he followed a swing with another. Lyueral ducked and dodged ”I can't. I'd lose” she laughed. The duel had been going for nearly twenty minutes and neither participant showed the slightest sign of fatique. Suddenly, by some unspoken signal they broke apart and saluted. It was clear that neither would claim victory this way.

”A change of weapons then?” Chuhan suggested as a legionnaire ran to retrieve his axe. Lyueral nodded ”That would be for the best if we ever wish to finish this in anything save a tie”. Drawing her twin swords from her back she examined the blades quickly. They were faultless, master-crafted Khit-swords, monomolecular blades that could cut through almost anything. Satisfied, she turned her attention back to the Chratian.

Choosing a pair of Talon Gauntlets that allowed for much greater speed and agility than the traditional double-headed vibranium battleaxe, Chuhan looked every part the deadly predator his species resembled. His thick creamy mane fell over his broad shoulders covered with matching fur, framing his leonine face. The right side had been replaced by bionics, glistening steel and a single glowing red eye.

The duel had brought a large crowd of off-duty soldiers and support staff to witness it. Chuhan was the Pride-Commander of the Chratian forces assigned to the 513th AggRec fleet and bore the honourable rank of Warmaster, signalling his skill in combat. Lyueral was the Mistress of Arms of the Khe'er warriors of the fleet and one of the most skilled close combat specialists in the fleet. Both of them could take on several Praetorian Cyborgs and come out on top. They were also good friends and fierce competitors.

As they took their places in the opposite corners of their simulated battlefield, the CnC room of an UAC battlecruiser, a voice spoke from the shadows.

”You will finish this matter another day Warmaster Chuhan and Lyueral, Mistress of Arms” a third figure entered the battlefield. A whisper went through the gathered crowd. The newcomer was obviously Khe'er, no other species in the Union moved with such grace, but the voice had been male. There was only one male Khe'er in the fleet. The Shadowhunter, Lord Commander of the Khe'er Nightblades. ”This day, you will both test your skills against me. Simultaneously. Hold nothing back, or it will be the death of you” assuming a combat stance, unarmed, he gave his order with such authority and determination that the two combatants, after a glance at each other, turned to face the living legend.

Three minutes later, the Shadowhunter left as silently as he had arrived, leaving his opponents lying on the floor of the simulated UAC cruiser.

On board The Destiny, the members of the council were grouped in a wide conference room. A holographic projector below them displayed a real-time map of the planet they orbited.

'Much of the advance guard has landed and set up its preliminary base operations.' Crackled Marcus's voice over the radio. 'And the first Perseus ships setting down as we speak - production and farming will begin by the end of the week.'

'Excellent Commander,' commented Jentus, 'Keep us appraised of any further actions from the other ships in the system.'

'There is one small issue councillor,' came a dry, rasping voice from across the table. The man who spoke was in his old age, a shock of white hair framing his tired face. 'We have several ship captains reporting system wide broadcasts. Propaganda, urging the populous to rise up against the leading groups. Would you have me counter it?'

'I wouldn't worry about it Drevlin,' Jentus said, nodding thoughtfully, 'The people know we lead them well, and too often they have seen the results of trying to settle. Nevertheless, to be sure release the following message across the military and civilian networks;

'To all Lantean men, women and children,

The other people in this system would suggest you join them, a rise against the council. We would remind you of three things. Firstly, the the Council has always led you well, without complaint and despite thousands of years of war, pursuit and attempted oppression, we have not only maintained our democratic routes, but we have maintained our way of life, our culture, and our freedom. Remember also the Years of Woe, and the events on the Ypres System. Remember the fallen from
The Elysium and the fate that befell them when they decided to follow another path. Only through unity have we remained this strong, and only through our continued unity will we continue to live. And finally, remember the Ancients, those beings who gave us life, and taught us how to act that we my join them when we pass from this life. Remember that they taught freedom and unity and that this is what we still have. Do not fall to the claims of these other people, for too often have we listened and been fooled. Too often have we vowed not to let it happen again. Remember your people, remember your culture, and remember to be prepared to fight for the life we have.'

He stopped speaking, and rubbed his chin. 'Shut down all incoming wide-frequency broadcasts. All civilians and soldiers are to maintain contact on Lantean encryption only. These messages are to be heard only by those vetted for tactical requirements.

The shuttle returned to The Destiny shortly after it had docked. Still flanked by her guard, Larrin headed to the Council.

'How did the negotiations go?'

'Fine, we are allies now. Alert the rest of the fleet.'

...the only logical conclusion to this system is violence.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These messages together with many more are now constantly heard around the capital of the Starspawn, as the slaves there have cast away their shackles of oppression, after being encouraged by the propaganda they heard by the agitators and other broadcasts they managed to hear while on duty.

The capital of 5c is now under chaos, as the slaves are roaming free, looting and smashing stuff. With most of the other forces capturing more territories, the garrisoned forces of the starspawn are too much outnumbered to be of much use in quelling the rebellion. All they can do is protect the most important places from the angry mob.
The situation looks a bit bleak, but more garrison troops are being amassed, and hopefully they will be on time before the rebellion spreads to the other territories held by the starspawn...

'Ah Captain, you are here to make your report.' It wasn't a question.

'Yes Ma'am,' grunted Marcus, coming to attention opposite Larrin, who was sitting pouring over various maps, read-outs and data sheets.

'Oh, don't be so formal Commander,' commented Larrin, waving her hand in his general direction without looking up. The grizzled veteran relaxed, and moved forward to speak to the chief councillor.

'The landings were highly successful. Most of the terrain is mountainous and volcanic, but there is a sizeable indigenous population already present - farmers and traders. The initial landings brought some resistance, but most of it was dealt with using non-lethal force. Those that were detained are ready to be released back to the population.'

'The majority of the ships have landed in the valleys, with their Daedalus support either in orbit or on flatter peaks. They should be well defended from any ground attack, and we will have enough warning before air assaults to effect evacuations.'

'Excellent Commander, you've done very well. You can return to The Apollo when you are ready,' said Larrin. 'And send in Chancellor Gelorum, she is waiting outside.'

Nodding, Marcus turned and took his leave. He was quickly replaced by a short, middle age woman with long raven hair. 'You wished to speak to me Councillor?'

'I did Gelorum, please sit.' Larrin motioned to a chair. The councillor sat.

'Commander Hengar has informed me that the camps are set, and the indigenous population is free to go about it's general business - it appears to pose no threat...'

'...and you wish me to organise the start up of trade and building?' nodded Gelorum.

'I do,' smiled Larrin. 'Inform them we are willing to trade low levels of medical and agricultural technology in exchange for food and importantly raw materials like metal and other minerals. Be sure to inform them that we are willing to work to extract the ores and farm the food, we simply need the locations, though trade is always preferable. And remember...'

'...remember to ensure all work teams have escorts. I know Larrin.' Gelorum smiled, 'I have done this before you remember. I will star immediately. I will also inform Councilman Nefler that he should prepare his rota to ensure all Ship Captains have a chance to make repairs.'

'Thank you Gelorum,' Larrin smiled weakly. 'I just have the feeling we may be here a while...'
