"What reason would Cyoil have to betray us? He'd be a fool to do so. Do you suspect he is working for the bandits and seeks to trap us here? Just what exactly are you accusing him of Sir Alain?"
Sheppard tried to keep his voice calm and even, he did not believe any man would be fool enough to betray them and struggled to understand what Sir Alain had against the peasant.

Alain sighed "His answers have always been too convenient, he never spoke of brigands and bandits until you made mention of it first. He didn't provide the details of the bandits approach or his hiding place until I made mention of them. When he did make mention he quickly improvised an answer, it was plainly obvious to me that he was doing it!"

"Then I have no reason to doubt you brother"
Sheppard drew his sword, the tip pointed directly at cyoils throat. "Is what Sir Alain says true Cyoil? Are you the brigand who is behind the terrible things here?"
His eyes narrowed, ready to pass judgement if this man was indeed guilty.

Old Cyiol looked at the two knights in bewilderment as they bickered, and then yelped as the tip of Sir Sheppard's sword tapped against his throat. He tried to answer, but instead broke out into ugly, snuffling tears.

"Locked from the outside? What sort of man locks his wife away in a tower?" says Owen in disbelief. Owen searches for the doors lock as he does he keeps talking, "Rosyland what type of lock is it and how can I open it? Do I need a key?"

"Stop your blubbering Cyoil, are you not a man!" said Sheppard as he lowered his sword. "You would do well to tell us the truth now, for next time you lie, I can't guarantee that Sir Alains words will stop me from splitting you in two."
Sheppard was becoming increasingly frustrated at the situation. Never had he thought he would hear stories of demons, or encounter traitorous peasants on his own estate. This situation needed to be resolved.

As the two knights stood, confronting Cyiol, Sir Sheppard saw something out of the corner of his eye. Turning, he saw a man hurrying along the road towards them. As he turned, he suddenly felt a sharp tug around his middle, as if someone was tugging at his belt! The misbegotten things fell down about his ankles, and, shocked, Sir Sheppard turned back to see his belt in Old Cyiol's hands!

OOC: lol!

Alain, drew his sword, his suspicions had manifested to something worse than he had feared. "Cyiol, what is going on? Why did Sir Sheppard's belt untie itself and fly into your hands of its own volition?! If you know anything you must tell me now or I cannot protect you! What is going on here? Magic? For whom are you lying?"

In his present condition Owen did not think confronting Morien anout the key or attempting to reach a window from the outside were very good options. Out of the two the window seemed the lesser evil. "I will go next door then. Be watchful I may need a hand up." says Owen. He moves to leave but adds one last thing before leaving, "Don't worry Rosyland I promise I will get you away from here safely." says Owen more calmly and confidently then he actually feels.

Sheppard scrambled to pull his pants back up around his waist, he snatched the belt from Cyoil and fastened it again. The look of shock and disbeliefe quickly quickly turned to rage as the point of the sword returned to Cyoils throat. "Speak now cur, and do it quickly! What is going on!?"

As Sir Sheppard held his pants up with one hand, and threatened Old Cyiol with his sword in the other, the man running towards them came closer. It was Old Gorwel, the peasant leader.

"My lords, I pray you have not been led astray by this man! Please, sheathe your sword - if he has done any wrong, it is not his fault. Old Cyiol is simple-minded, he cannot be held accountable for his actions!"

Sir Owen entered the room next to Lady Rosalynd's, which was furnished as a guest room but empty of occupants. At the back of the room, a window opened up to the storm, and sticking his head out it, the knight could see Lady Rosalynd's window. He would have to climb outside the castle to reach it - and it crossed his mind that the Lady mean his death, this would be a good way. For should he lose his grip and fall, even if he missed the rocks at the base of the castle, he would fall into the storm-surged sea and would surely not survive it a second time!

Owen banished any doubhts about the Lady's intentions choosing to believe that she was truly a damsel in distress. He would live up to the knight's code to help the weak and helpless. Knowing it could well mean his death the chivalrous Sir Owen climbs out the window intent on rescuing Rosyland.

"You are lucky these to men have such level heads Cyoil, had I been the only one here your head would have rolled. I shall deal with you later." Sheppard again lowered his sword, though he still felt thoroughly embarrassed and infuriated, he tried his best to calm himself.
"Now then Gorwel, can you explain what is going on here, and I warn you, I am in no mood for any fanciful stories or lies."

"It is the Devil himself," Old Gorwel said, making the sign of the cross. "If I had not come along, surely you would have slain this man, and who would laugh at that save Old Scratch himself?"

-------------

The stone window-ledge was slick with rainwater, and Sir Owen could see that he would have to leap to reach Lady Rosalynd's own window. There was nothing for it - the knight hurtled through space as the weather beat down upon him. He seized hold of the Lady's window, and hauled himself through into her chambers, a sodden but triumphant appearance.

Lady Rosalynd herself had put on a fur robe over her sleeping-attire for modesty's sake. Her eyes were red, and her cheeks stained with tears, but she helped Sir Owen upright and then told him her tragic tale. She had heard the story of the knight's previous wives, but chose to ignore it. "He was most courteous and honourable and showed not the distaste I have become accustomed to receive since we made our vows. I can mark the moment of derision towards me. No sooner were we married in then an uncontrollable temper arose in my husband and he did take me to my room on our wedding night, our banquet cancelled. Sir Morien claimed to our guests that I was afflicted by a fever. That night I woke, for reasons I know not, to find my husband standing above me, a sharp dagger in his hand. I lay still and did not move for well on three hours. For the entire period of the time my husband did seem to go through such torments in his mind as to whether to plunge the dagger into my breast or to stay his hand. Upon the cock crow, he left my room."

"Since then, by day my husband is a loving and gentle lord, but at night I am a prisoner in this room. Several times he has struck me, and I think surely I shall perish ere long. One night, not long past, I managed to escape this room. I could not leave the castle with the tide covering the causeway, but I made my way by misadventure to the dungeons! My lord keeps all manner of foul instruments there - but worst of all were three braids of hair hung upon the wall, like trophies, all different colour, all covered in... blood..."

Lady Rosalynd had been fighting hard to keep her composure throughout the course of her speech, but at this last point the horrors of her situation became to much for her, and she sank down upon the bed, weeping once more.

Owen looks down upon Rosyland with pity for the helpless woman. Still damp with both water and blood Owen sits his hurt body upon the bed next to the weeping form of Rosyland, his body thankful for the rest.

"Stop your crying Rosyland. I know that I may not look very impressive or heroic at the moment but I give you my word as a knight that I will keep you safe from harm. You will not die at anyones hand as long as you are near me." says Owen soothingly trying to calm the weeping lady. As he talks he takes one of the Lady's small delicate hands in one of his own larger, larger rougher ones. "So dry your tears."

"By the gods! More talk of devils and magic! Is there not one man in this village who does not believe that demons are the cause of this!"
Sheppard had just about had enough of this talk, but decided to humor Gorwel, if only to resolve the matter once and for all. "Alright then Gorwel, where does this demon lurk? tell me and I shall plant my sword in it's chest and be rid of it! What say you Sir Alain, are you eager to slay a devil!" he said mockingly

Owen jumps up from where he has been sitting and draws his blade swiftly.

"Sir Morien do not come a step closer. I won't let you hurt Rosyland anymore you murderer. Let both of us go or I will kill you." threatens Owen. "Rosyland if we fight run if you get the chance." he adds eyes locked on Morien.

OOC: Use Honour Passion if it wasn't used on the climb. If used up apply any other relevant virtues and if none available Owen eill fight him straight up. I believe I get a +5Sword for fighting armourless.

ooc: Honour was used for the window jump (and saved your life). Going for Love now instead.

Sir Owen felt his exhaustion burn away under the fires of rage. After years of separation, he still nursed his love for dead Kara, and this traitor would cast love aside that easily? He spun his sword in his hand as Sir Morien charged towards him, parried the pagan knight's wild first blow, then struck back. He was deathly tired, and cold, and short of blood - but he was the Kingkiller, and no petty scum like this could best him. His first blow sliced into Sir Morien's leg, sending blood spraying across the lady's room, and making Sir Morien stagger and almost fall to the ground. The older pagan's face went white with pain, as blood continued to flow from the grievous wound, and he could barely support his own weight. "Mercy! Mercy!" he cried. Nearby, Lady Rosalynd's face was also white with shock and horror - save where a spray of blood from her lord's wound had splattered across one cheek.
