Sturm’s reflexes allow him to evade the knight’s lance. Reacting quickly, he grabs Ranald by the arm and wrenches the knight from his saddle, throwing him to the ground and causing 1 wound.

The acrobatic Montel soars over the halberdier’s line! He rushes in to attack the witch hunter and manages to inflict 1 wound. Montel’s poison begins to course through the witch hunters veins. The witch hunter retaliates, firing his pistol and inflicting 2 wounds. The pistoliers flanking the witch hunter also fire. One hits his mark and inflicts another wound on Montel.

Facing so many foes, Josef gives in to beast inside him, his body transforming into something monstrous. His claws and fangs inflict horrifying damage, slaying 4 of his attackers outright and inflicting a wound on one of the swordsman! Frightened by this display, the soldiers step back, and only one lucky swordsmen inflicts a wound on the Strigoi.

The Necrarch surprises the hunstmen by appearing amongst them. 4 of them wither and die instantly, and another takes a wound as Nero’s spell takes affect. Only a few of the hunstman have the presence of mind to retaliate, their arrows inflicting 2 wounds.

A combined effect of beauty and horror causes the soldiers facing Anais to hesitate. Taking aim, Anais puts a shot between the eyes of one of the stunned men. The other two snap out of it, and inflict one wound on the Von Carstein. The vampire’s blade takes down another halberdier.

Doru lashes out with magic, and a black bolt of power kills two halberdiers. He inflicts a wound on one of the swordsmen with his blade, but fails to defend against the other, taking 1 wound.

Sturm di Matar - Engaged with 1 Brettonian Knight.
13 wounds remaining

Montel Preznant - Engaged with 2 pistoliers and an angry witch hunter.
4 wounds remaining

Josef Kharnulf - Engaged with 4 halberdiers and 1 swordsmen.
12 wounds remaining

Nero Bellum - Engaged with 2 hunstmen (close combat).
8 wounds remaining

Anais von Carstein - Engaged with 1 halberdier.
9 wounds remaining

Doru von Carstein - Engaged with 2 swordsmen.
9 wounds remaining

Doru summoned dark magics as the soldiers closed in on him. Shouting a word of power a bolt of pure blackness flew from his hand, burning a hole through one of the halberdiers and melting the skull of the man behind him. Allowing himself a confident smile, he lashed out with his sword, the blade scoring a deep wound on an attacking swordsmen. The man’s comrade used the opportunity to stab the vampire’s ribcage. Doru hissed and jumped back before the blade could go any deeper. Only a small trickle of blood flowed from the wound, and Doru prepared himself to attack again.

Seeing the attack fail, the soldiers on the road organized themselves into a defensive line. Their spirits were wavering, but they prepared themselves to defend their cargo to the death.

OOC: Wow, some nice rolls for the first combat! If you were wondering why your wound count doesn't seem to add up, its because I gave everyone one extra base wound, on account of we’re all super-human monsters. :) For those of you that are new to this, or in case you need a reminder, you get to use 2 abilities per round of combat (example: shooting a gun and attacking with a sword). This excludes passive abilities of course, which are always active. If you see that your character is free to act, you may use 3 abilities (example: shoot a gun, cast a spell, then attack with your sword). So, if you have a specific plan in mind or specific skills you wish to be used, you have to tell me, otherwise I’ll pick them for you.

And feel free to write out the details of the combat from your character's point of view, with stylish attacks, gory deaths, witty remarks, whatever you want; the official post is just meant to be a quick summary.

As Montel eyed the two halberdiers he almost allowed a soft chuckle to escape his mouth, but he managed to refrain and save himself from an early blunder. This was all a game to the Lahmian, but it was one he was determined to play flawlessly. Anyone ruining that pleasure for him would pay dearly.

Positioned in a fairly straight line now, he started his dash towards his goal. His lean and frail build combined with the dark leather armour provided the key elements for his nightly stalking, being light enough that the ground stayed unstirred and blending well into the moonlit landscape. The black flash in front of the halberdiers would be like the blink of an eye, and with five other vampires in sight he was certain they would remain focused on the others.

The last obstacle was in sight, a line of halberdiers between the Lahmian and his target. As he stood between two of them he prepared himself. Montel was making sure he wouldn't stop in front of their eyes, but in the corner of their view instead. He couldn't afford being spotted in the split-second he needed to go airborne.

Bending through his knees and bouncing upwards with a velocity no mortal could hope to match, Montel launched himself like a compressed spring. The Lahmian was speeding towards the Witch hunter as a deadly projectile as he raised his right hand; poisoned dagger tip aimed at the mortal's head.

Something was amiss however, his jump wasn't going to clear the distance. Stretching his right arm out as far as he could, he made a gash on the witch hunter's right upper-arm as he landed. It was a mere flesh wound, but he knew the poison had found its way in. Shots quickly followed as he recovered shortly from the daring leap, and he grunted in pain as they tore through his leather armour into his body. He did not like bullets, especially not inside his body.

The situation would've been ideal now if it weren't for those damned horses they were mounted on. He'd need to get rid of those and slip into close combat to make the witch hunter's pistol useless and the aim for the pistoliers difficult. In a close-combat showdown the witch hunter would surely prove no match for his superior speed and skill.

With an unblinking and intense stare only immortal beings could possess he looked straight into the witch hunter's eyes. He saw anger in them, but that would soon be overshadowed by terror. As his more feral features became visible a dark, booming voice came forth, laced with malicious intent. "Quick death is a fate you will not be granted, I will butcher you like the beasts you are!"

Even though the horses obviously did not understand what he was saying, the deafening roar he produced would surely make even the bravest stallion panic. Not entirely convinced the witch hunter had wet his pants just yet, he followed his stare up with a maniacal grin before he sprang into action; side-stepping before he rushed forward. He was confident that he was far more able to react to the horses unpredictable movements in their fear than the pistoliers or the witch hunter. The poisoned mortal could just as well fall limp and get trampled by his own horse the following moments.

He was hungry and would feast on human blood before the end of this battle.

Montel uses Mind Control to instil fear and terror into the mind of the foes he is engaged with and their mounts. He will then follow up with Swift Killer to finish what he started with the witch hunter. He also tries to remain as close to the witch hunter as he can, making it difficult for the mortals to align a clear shot on him.

Like a spectre of the arcane Nero's grotesque and ghastly apparations slithered down the hill's slope. Like a cursed cenobyte he made his way across the forming battlefield to reach his intended target, the huntsman. When he arrived in their midst, a surge of pure negative energy following in his wake, his rasping voice sounded as he raised his arm to direct the power.

As Nero spoke the words of a long forgotten lore power surged through the unflesh that coursed through his veins. "Nex." Was the single word of might that escaped from his serrated grin. It's meaning being 'Violent Death'... And violent it was. Four of the fully armoured soldiers standing beside him withered rapidly to skeletal dust behind the face covers of their helmets. Another one getting caught in the surge, deathly magics dancing around on the surface of his leather and lithe mail armour, withering his life force but not decimating it like it did with the others.

The perverse pleasure Nero took from obliterating life was clearly showing on his visage, the tattered flesh forming a devious fanged smile as he called to the powers once again. Ready to raise those whom had just fallen back into this world to slaughter their former comrades. But first.. It was time to reinforce his grip upon the winds.

"Ego sum Angelus Nex! Mancipium Ego vadum vestri nex corpus!" Came out as the air thickened and Nero frozen pulse quickened with the power of darkness. For I am the angel of death, enslaving those whose lives I took to bring inflict pain upon others. He thought, his mind adding power to words of the unliving.

Nero uses Unholy Cynosure to predict the flux of the winds of death after which he'll use Necromancy to raise the dead huntsman (whom will hopefully protect him from further harm and maybe bring such harm to their comrades).

As his foes surrounded im Josef let out an almighty roar of anger. He hurled his axe into the nearest enemy, the force of the throw sending it deep into the chest, the sound of the bones being smashed was gruesome though the cry of agony as the halberdier died was worse. He glared at the other soldiers around him, his cold animal like eyes were changing to an impenetrable black whilst he roared at them again. "Your time is up mortals" he quipped at them. He dodged a halberd thrust but saw that they had surrounded him in an attempt to send him to his final rest. Another thrust came his way but he grabbed the shaft with a shocking speed before smirking. Making a bestial growl his body began to shift and grow. The beast was emerging from within. As his body changed great muscles formed whilst his arms changed to murderous talons, but it was the face that was the most fearsome sight of all as it twisted into a wolflike visage, monstrous canines emerged from his mouth. The halberd he had held before splinted under his grip and his caws moved swiftly to the tender neck of his prey, killing the soldier before he could make a noise.

He now stood well above the enemies and his mind began to drift to the primal instincts to tear the flesh from the frail bodies. The hulking monstoer he had become glared at them from it's cold, undead eyes. One of his foes having overcome the initial shock moved in to attack but Josef's powerful talons reached out at him and his head moved in quickly as he sunk his fangs into the neck, biting down and tearing a large portion of it free. As he swallowed the sweet taste of blood sent his system to a a high and any sense of reason began to fade away. His nose twitched at the further smells of it. Again he lashed out wildly, with no intent but to kill and devour . From behind he felt a cold, steel blade dig into his flesh and howled wwildly and turned to face him. The fight was on.

Josef will continue his attacks, lashing out wildly at whoever comes near, this includes any comrades for Josek has little control in his blood frenzied stupor. To go with this he will use the Bloodlust and Graceful Swiftness abilities on the assumption that staying as a Varghulf doesn't count as one of my actions.

Alright, the von Carstein diplomat thought, so this was how it would be. Her own position was slightly behind the rest of the vampires, but even so, several enemies had decided that she was clearly an easier target than her fellow von Carstein or the Strigoi brute currently wreaking havoc on their comrades.

Facing down a charging trio of Imperial soldiers might be enough to amuse some of her kind, but Anais did not even hesitate for that, nor did she pause when the humans seemed to falter in her face. Instead, she simply snatched her pistol from its holster and, with the ease of practice, blasted one of the charging soldiers from his feet as he came for her. Her other hand drew her sword and she allowed herself a small smirk as the other two soldiers, shaken from their trances, lunged in with their halberds. Instead, she twisted nimbly aside from one, allowing the blade to stab directly past her while her own weapon opened the man’s throat in a single, simple twist of her wrist even as her free hand reholstered her pistol – useless until she had the time to reload it.

Her manoeuvre brought her back around to face the third enemy just in time to attempt to dodge his attack. Despite her superhuman agility, Anais was unable to avoid it, the polearm’s tip slicing into her shoulder. The undead noblewoman glared at the man, her lips curling back to bare her fangs in an angry snarl, her inherent pride irritated by the petty wound even though it was only a minor cut. Still, her expression was the only outward sign of her annoyance.

Instead, behind her blue eyes, her mind began to plan. One mortal should not hold her up for much longer, even if she was not the killer that some of those present were. Her face smoothed out again as her irritation died and she lunged forward in a blur for the halberdier. Anais could feel the Winds blowing stronger as she did, her limited training still more than enough to allow her to sense the power there and feel its promise fill her rotted heart.

Anais will use her Unnatural Dexterity assuming that it isn’t always on, and attack the halberdier with her sword. If it is always on, she will follow up the attack by using Adept Necromancer to blast the nearest enemy with dark magic.

Lukas Samson had been traveling for over a month and he still had not reached the remote and unimportant outpost mentioned in the letter he had recieved. It had been a long journey from the Border Princes to the Grey Mountains and he was already a day late. Now that the sun had finally gone down, Lukas again took to the small mountain road that led to the mountain outpost. If his estimates were correct he should come upon the outpost before long. As he was moving along he thought about what and who could lie ahead at the end of his road. Surely whoever was behind the letter was indeed powerful for he knew Lukas's true name and was able to ensure the letter reached him. Even though he was fighting in the service of a Border Prince under a false name on the border of the civilized world. Though more likely than not this trip would prove fruitless he was curious enough to find out. After all one of the few blessings of undeath was that he had all the time he could ever want.

Lukas was brought out of his contemplation by sounds of battle coming from the road not far ahead. Lukas draws his long sword from his belt and begins to run toward the fray at a speed no motral man could hope to match. Eventually he came into visual range of the combat and the sight that greeted him was among the most unusual he had seen in his three centuries of travel. He saw six vampires engaged in combat with the garrisonof an Imperial convoy. But what was truly unusual was the diversity of the group. The Strigoi was impossible to miss as well as the Necrarch and his fellow Bood Dragon althoug he did not recognize the identity of his blood brother. The other three were more diffiult although he was fairly certain that probably all mebers of the von Carstein family. Looking down at the scence the vampires for the most part seemed to have victory assured. One of the the vampires, very young by his looks, engaged against three horseman armed with pistols seemed to be in a more preilous posistion than the rest. Surely this group must be related to the letter. Deciding that answers could wait until the fight was over, Lukas charged the two pistoliers who were attempting to line up good shots against the pistolier with a loud warcry on his lips.

Lukas will engage the two pistoliers in close combat with his sword using Weaponsmaster and Swift As the Wind if it is not always in effect.

As the convey moved, Kemsênefer Nefarhet slept in her sarcophagus.

The coffin was made of pure gold, with her likeness carved on its' surface. It was fastened shut and locked from the inside to prevent any unwanted intrusions during her rest, although she felt the sarcophagus itself be hauled violently onto a vehicle of some kind. Kemsênefer decided not to arise from her resting place, lest she draw unnecessary attention. She was certain that it was greedy humans from the empire who had taken her from her tomb, and plundered it of all its' riches -- how fortunate she chose to be laid to rest with her weapons by her side. For hours, she heard the humans discussing what was in the supply caravan, though all she could hear were muffled sounds. The smell of their fresh blood proved almost overwhelming, but by her better judgement, she chose to fight the urge to feed.

Sometime into the travel, the train stopped. The sound of cold steel on cold steel ensured, and she picked up the smell of another blood -- this time, it was not human, but one of her own bloodline, a Lahmian vampire. Suddenly, more blood tickled her senses. A stinking Necrarch, a Cursed Strigoi, Von Carsteins, Blood Dragons... Suddenly it hit her - these vampires must be fighting the humans.

Seeing her chance to escape, she quickly fumbled with the locking mechanisms within her sarcophagus. The smiled quietly to herself at the fact that the humans had no idea she was inside, and also, at her luck: These other vampires would be valuable allies and tools. She rose out of her sarcophagus and stepped outside, taking her staff and dagger from the caravan and standing outside in the sunlight. She took a moment to adjust to the light, before surveying the battlefield: These vampires were strong, no doubt - they had dispatched the guards of the caravan almost completely. However, she eyed one vampire who was lashing out like a wild beast at 5 opponents surrounding him.

She muttered a dark incantation in her native tongue to the winds of shyish, commanding them to fill her hand with death. Her voice sounded like three, and she let a wave of pure death loose upon the halberdiers Josef is fighting.

Kemsênefer will use her Dark Hand of Death and her Vampiric Reflexes to remain aware of her surroundings.

Sturm waited for his opponent to pick himself up, standing at the ready. "A whelp like you should have no right to wear the station of a knight." he taunted his opponent. As the knight stood up and readied his sword, Sturm charged, a blow aimed at his enemy's neck.

Sturm uses the Blademaster and Strenght of Steel skills, assuming they're not always on.

Stunned by the vampire’s attack, the knight is too slow to defend himself. Sturm’s blade cleaves the knight’s head from his shoulders in one stroke! An arrow thumps into Sturm’s armour, but fails to pierce his flesh. Another flies past his helm as the huntsmen take advantage of his position in the open.

Montel’s mind powers cause havoc among his enemies. One pistolier fails to take any action. The other hit’s the ground as his horse throws him from the saddle and bolts. The witch hunter defies Montel’s power and the poison in his veins, lashing out and inflicting one wound. This is his last act, however, as Montel closes and finishes him.

A warcry distracts the two pistoliers, who, having seen their leader fall, turn and engage the charging Lukas perhaps hoping for an easier fight. Both have time to fire a shot, one glancing off the undead knight’s shoulder, the other hitting him square in the chest, causing two wounds. Before they can reload, the vampire is among them, killing one who is still fumbling with his gun. The other manages to draw his sword but fails to land a blow, falling to the Blood Dragon’s blade.

Emerging from her coffin, Kemsênefer goes unnoticed by the soldiers and has plenty of time to prepare her spell. Three of the halberdiers are engulfed by dark magic! Her spell attracts the attention of the soldiers in front of her, and three turn around to engage the vampire. Kemsênefer’s reflexes prevent her from being surprised however, and she takes only one wound.

Seeing the massive Varghulf rip four of his comrades to shreds, and watching three others torn apart by magic is too much for the wounded swordsman, who turns and flees. Unlike the swordsman, the last halberdier facing Josef is frozen in place by his fear, allowing Josef to dispatch him easily.

As Nero prepares his own spell, he feels the winds seem to drain momentarily, perhaps because of another magic user. Whatever the reason, Nero is only able to summon two of the huntsmen back from death. The shambling things are enough to distract the two closest attackers, but a pair of arrows embed themselves into Nero’s decaying flesh, causing two wounds.

The halberdier facing Anais is still to stunned to make a proper attack, and she slays the soldier with ease. Her magic is less effective, but still causes one wound on the swordsmen fighting Doru.

Doru takes another two wounds from his attackers, but with the help of Anais’s magic, the von Carstein finishes off his foes without too much trouble.

Sturm di Matar - Free to act.
13 wounds remaining

Montel Preznant - Engaged with 2 halberdiers and one swordsman.
3 wounds remaining

Lukas Samson - Engaged with 2 halberdiers.
11 wounds remaining

Kemsênefer - Engaged with 3 swordsmen.
9 wounds remaining

Josef Kharnulf - Free to act.
12 wounds remaining

Nero Bellum - Free to act (zombie engaged hunstmen).
6 wounds remaining

Anais von Carstein - Free to act.
9 wounds remaining

Doru von Carstein - Free to act.
7 wounds remaining

Doru threw himself forward, intending to catch the swordsmen off balance and slay them both at once. These were trained soldiers, however, and they would not fall for such a trick. Two blades sliced into Doru’s flesh and he shouted in pain, his face beginning to contort as his bestial side threatened to come forth. Doru felt his skin tingle as dark magic blasted into the swordsmen from beside him. Seizing the advantage, he swept forwards again, stabbing one man through the chest and slicing through the other’s throat. As the swordsmen slumped to the ground he composed himself, regaining his human features. He bowed to Anais and smiled broadly. “I thank you for the timely assistance, my lady. Shall we see to the others?” Doru took a moment to scan the battlefield. He blinked in surprise at the addition of two unfamiliar vampires, but introductions would have to wait. Montel had slain the witch hunter and now faced more soldiers. Nero was having difficulty, but Sturm was in the best position to aid him. The largest remaining group of soldiers were forming up into a solid defensive position near the wagons and the female Lahmian. “Lady Anais, it seems the Lahmians are in need of help. Perhaps you could take the battering ram with claws and teeth and break their defenses.” Doru wasn’t sure if he would understand them in his state, much less take orders, but he was sure that if pointed in the right direction, the Strigoi would do the rest. “I will assist Montel.

OOC: Sorry that took longer than promised. Pretty good dice rolls again. Let's wrap this up! The map will be posted in the OOC thread shortly.

Despite Lukas's great speed the two pistoliers are able to both get off a shot before they are in range of Lukas's blade. At such close range the pistoliers do not miss thier target and both bullets find thier mark. Lukas's shoulder pad deflects one, but the other bullet hits Lukas square in the chest and passes easiy through both his breastplate and the mail underneath to pierce Lukas's undead flesh. The wound, which would have killed a mortal man, does not even slow Lukas and he reaches the pair before they've even begun to reload thier weapons. With one powerful, precise swing of his blade Lukas beheads the pistolier whose shot pierced his chest. The other pistolier is able to use this time to use this time to draw his sword and make a quick slash. Lukas parries the pathetic attack easily and dispatches his foe with a two handed strike to the pistolier's chest. As the pistolier falls dead from his saddle, Lukas finds no time to think or rest as he is immediatly engaged by two enemy halbrieders.

Lukas will use Weaponsmaster and Swift As The Wind again this turn as he engages the two halbrieders.

Before the knight's head hits the ground, Sturm is already looking for new opponents. His fellow vampires were faring with variable success, but the closest in need of greatest assistance was Montel. The new arrival, his kin, was fighting two commoners and could fend for himself, but the Von Carstein wasn't a fighter of their calibre. As his opponent's head hit the ground, Sturm was running to help the younger vampire.

Sturm will engage the swordsman to begin with and then move on to the halberdiers if possible.

The winds of magic shifted unexpectedly as more allies revealed themselves. Something he hadn't foreseen. Cursing as the flow of plower ran thin between the ethereal mass of his fingers Nero only managed to pull up enough energy to raise two of the soldiers that had fallen. Their dead bodies standing back up in a grotesque fashion, struggling to their feet as the weight of their armour slowed the undead down even further. Mildly satisfied with the result Nero looked at what was left of his prey. Two arrows embedded themselves in his flesh but he didn't mind it too much. It seemed the huntsmen would now be occupied with the zombies for a while at least, giving him some time to act with tact.

He crouched down over one of his remaining victims that he recently killed. His serrated grin opening up to reveal long hollow fangs, ready to draw blood and revitalize his undead flesh. Digging them in deeply through the paling flesh of his victim to find the now pulseless artery. The huntsman only recently died so the blood was still fresh. Drawing deeply from the stash of red gold left in the human Nero's senses trickled with regeneration.

With murder in the thirst Nero raised himself back up once more.

"Vegetabilis silenti etc!" He casted out to augment his unliving zombified soldiers. Before his gaze fixed upon the huntsmen left standing. Stretching out his arm the return came for a simple yet deadly spell.

"Nex." Came rasping out, the word of power laced with vile intent.

Nero, being free to act, uses Vampiric Mastery before using Necromancy on the zombies to augment their existence and last but not least Death & Decay on the remaining huntsmen.

The last remaining Imperial soldier made a half hearted attack, his halberd lunging for her heart, but it was quite clear to the vampire that his own heart was not in his attack. He was stunned both by the speed with which she had slain his two comrades and the odd beauty of the undead noblewoman. Both were to prove fatal as Anais dodged the blow with contemptuous ease, bringing her sword in to pierce his chest. The blade punched directly through the armour and into the flesh beyond as she exerted her unnatural strength, before she pulled the weapon free, letting the soldier fall and his blood spill into the earth.

Suddenly alone amongst the chaos of battle, her eyes quickly moved to where Doru von Carstein fought his own battle against two Imperial warriors. They narrowed as Anais assessed the situation. He did not appear to be in overmuch difficulty, but a battle could turn in an instant. Further, this was a glorious opportunity to show that she was willing to follow his lead for now as was her duty to the elder of her bloodline.

She raised one hand, fingers moving quickly through the gestures to summon magic to her as she muttered the words of the spell, feeling them tug at her and pull dark energy into her grasp. A bolt of shadow formed in her hand, and she cast it out to engulf the swordsmen. Neither fell, but it seemed to give Doru the chance he needed and his sword cut both men down in seconds. With manners rarely seen among the coarse vampire nobles of her experience, he bowed and thanked her. It brought a slight smile to Anais’ own lips, and she politely curtseyed in reply.

“Certainly, my lord.” She joined him in glancing across the field, pursing her lips as she saw another two vampires joining the battle. Neither was familiar to her nor to Doru, if his expression was anything to judge by. But she did not let that concern her. The battle was yet to be won and even she knew better than to worry about the aftermath while it was still raging. She followed her elder’s gaze to the lines of soldiers between them and one of the newcomers and listened to his suggestion, flicking her gaze to the Strigoi nearby.

“I will do my best,” She told Doru, before stepping away and advancing on the line of Imperial soldiery, keeping a careful distance from the monstrous vampire as she did so. She kept her blade in one hand, but paused some feet from the defences. The von Carstein drew herself up to her full if not exactly impressive height, drawing on the dread majesty granted to her by her blood and her inborn dignity.

“Your cause is lost.” She sneered at the humans before her. “Surrender and serve us in life, or perish and serve in death. The choice is yours.” Anais paused. “But choose swiftly.” Her gesture encompassed the battlefield. “Or it may be made for you.”

Anais will use her Dark Majesty to attempt to persuade the assorted soldiery that they might as well surrender. If that falls through, she will engage the swordsman currently standing on his own.

Kemsênefer felt the winds of magic blow strongly towards her as she conjured a dark bolt from her clenched fist. Standing ready, she thrust her hand forward towards the soldiers the Varghulf was fighting, eviscerating them almost instantly; their death throes lasting less than a wuarter of a second before they were destroyed utterly. She smiled wickedly, but her celebration lasted only a moment: her cover was blown, and the Dark Lady was exposed.

The Lahmian anticipated another attack, and noticed the three swordsmen turn around. As they swung their blades to rip her in half, she leapt back, attempting to sweep the blade away with her dagger. However, the blow managed to head towards her still, and she raised her arm to deflect the weak blow, scratching it but doing no lasting damage. She leapt back to a more advantageous position - the carriage behind her, before opening her arms and letting out a horrifying screech to try and freeze the men in front of her in fear before finishing them off with another bolt of pure darkness.

Kemsênefer will use her Dark Serenade ability to attempt to freeze the soldiers in front of her in fear before attempting to destroy them with her Dark hand of Death

The stab in Montel's left shoulder was more of an insult than anything to him, the witch hunter somehow defying his power. He had acknowledged the arrival of two new vampires, but as he assessed they were on his side he deemed them unimportant for now.

As soon as the right-handed strike found its way through the dark leather and into his skin the Lahmian gripped around the mortal's wrist in an instant, stopping the attack dead in its tracks. With a quick jerk he then threw the man of his saddle. As he fell, Montel held onto the man's arm tightly and stomped down on his back with his foot.

The vampire licked his lips in delight as the gunslinger roared in pain; back bruised and shoulder dislocated. Before he had lost the initiative however, Montel gave a swift kick in his side and forced the witch hunter to roll over. A last act of defiance was made as the man tried to reach for him with his still functioning arm, but the Lahmian wouldn't have it. In return he slammed a dagger forcefully through the man's hand, quelling all the resistance the mortal could bring.

Following suit to his stab the Vampire moved on to finish the job, finding the mortal's abdomen. Hacking deeply, he ripped the man's flesh open and bared his insides to the world. Montel was pleased with the result and as the man was slowly dying from the blood loss and poisoning, he locked eyes with the witch hunter once more.

"This was your last mistake, cur. Death awaits." The Lahmian spoke with disdain. A short, sadistic chuckle then left his mouth as he noticed the mortal wished to reply, but found himself unable to do so.

With the witch hunter dying, Montel scanned the battlefield. Apparently his show had caught quite the attention as three soldiers were upon him and two vampires were approaching his fray. Realising he probably didn't look at his best currently, he gave a quick nod to Doru and then to Sturm to acknowledge their arrival. The vampire then hid his weapons behind his back and jumped back into the shroud of the night, after which he quickly dashed sideways to his left.

With one target disappearing and two new ones approaching, he was certain the soldiers would shift their attention to Doru and Sturm. Montel knew they were more than capable to handle them, so he waited for his opportunity to ambush the one they wouldn't directly be facing. He could use a good meal to restore his wounds after all, and one of the soldiers would prove to be his hapless victim.

Montel will fade into the night using Like A Shadow After which he'll ambush the leftover soldier Doru and Sturm aren't directly facing and use Fresh Blood to restore some wounds.

OOC - If this is short or not up to scratch its because I'm typing with the headache from hell.

IC - Josef lashed out again at the mortals around him, tearing flesh in wild swipes and collecting the head of another. As he eyed the lasts of the ones around him he saw something magical burst past him and into his foes. As they screamed in their death throes he turned and looked at the source of the spell and saw that more vampires had arrived. His cold, beastly eyes stared hungeraly at the vampire before he noticed them gestering towards another group of humans. Eager to return to the thrill of battle his powerful limbs launched him in their direction, emmiting a bestial roar.

"I want blood!" The beast was still hungry and eager for more carnage.

Lukas’ speed and skill allows him to avoid the stabbing halberds of his enemies, and he slips inside their reach, cutting them both down.

The swordsman attacking Montel is caught unawares as Sturm rushes him, and he falls without even swinging his blade. A halberd snags the vampire’s arm, inflicting one wound, though the soldier pays with his life as Sturm’s sword cleaves through him.

The other halberdier screams as Montel emerges from the shadows and sinks his fangs into his throat. The fresh blood rejuvenates the Lahmian, but his wounds are deep, and only two are healed by the weak mortal’s lifeblood.

Nero hungrily feasts on his fallen foe, but there is little time for a snack, and he only manages to heal one wound. Bolstered by the Necrarch’s power, the zombies regain some of the skill they possessed in life, each one managing to kill its opponent! Nero’s second spell is also successful, slaying two more unfortunate huntsmen.

A few soldiers begin to waver, as Anais attempts to convince them to surrender, but the charging form of Josef causes them to raise their weapons and fight for their lives. Anais dispatches the fleeing swordsman with no trouble.

Josef smashes into the group of soldiers like a battering ram, killing four in his rampage! However, the wall of halberds and swords takes its toll, inflicting four wounds on the Strigoi.

Seeing that his help is not needed by Montel and the Blood Dragons, Doru joins in Josef’s attack, killing two of the halberdiers the Varghulf had knocked aside, while taking one wound himself.

In a terrifying display of power, Kemsênefer’s scream causes all three soldiers to drop their weapons and fall to their knees, clutching their ears in pain! The blast of dark magic she casts kills two of the men.

VICTORY!

Sturm di Matar - 12 wounds remaining

Montel Preznant - 5 wounds remaining

Lukas Samson - 11 wounds remaining

Kemsênefer - 9 wounds remaining

Josef Kharnulf - 8 wounds remaining

Nero Bellum - 7 wounds remaining

Anais von Carstein - 9 wounds remaining

Doru von Carstein - 6 wounds remaining

All the soldiers and huntsmen that still lived wisely attempted to flee the battlefield, some scrambled up the rocks in sheer terror. Others simply dropped their weapons and pleaded for their lives. The swordsmen in front of Doru followed Anais’ advice and surrendered, falling to his knees. “I surrender! I will serve you, great lords! Just keep that… thing away from me!” He looked to the monstrous Varghulf that had ripped his comrades to pieces.

Doru smiled at the man. “It is not just him you must worry about my friend. We are all beasts here, some of us are simply better at hiding it.” Grabbing the man by the shoulders, Doru bit deep into the man’s neck, allowing himself to savor his second taste of blood in centuries. He stopped himself before drinking too much, however. Standing, he wiped away the blood from his face and straightened his clothes again, frowning at the holes and bloodstains. His smile returned as he looked around and saw that the battle was over. He saluted his fellow vampires and sheathed his sword, heading towards the wagons. “Well done, brothers and sisters! The spoils of our victory await. Tear the wagons apart, search everything!” While he wasn’t sure exactly what to look for, surely they would know this great treasure when they saw it. He was also curious about the new arrivals. He had seen the Blood Dragon charging into the fight, but it appeared as if the female Lahmian had come from the caravan itself! A troubling thought crept into Doru’s mind as he approached her and felt power emanating from her form… had she found the treasure already and kept it for herself? Perhaps she had gained her power over the ages, as Nero. Either way, he didn’t care for the idea that a new battle might begin. He hid his worries for now. “Welcome, daughter of Neferata. We are grateful for your aid.

OOC: Didn't want to take another round for a few soldiers. Take the time to drink some blood, heal wounds, meet the new guys and search for goodies. :D

Slightly tired from the fight Nero lowered himself to drink of his victims. He didn't pay much attention to the words of Doru which were tainting the air with self-righteous glory. There was no reason to celebrate a victory without making sure that the spoils were secured. After all, in his opinion, killing the leaders should be reserved until after the goal has been reached so that if it is not it is still within reach by the means of extracting the required information from a leader.. Or at least enjoy torturing one to death.

As his fangs sunk into the flesh of a recently deceased huntsman, one untainted by his magic, slain by one of his minions instead, and the still fresh blood gushed into his rotten mouth he wondered how they would ensure that, if they used the Varghulf, the unliving beast of burden wouldn't trample whatever it was they "ambushed" the caravan for..

Nero drinks blood from a victim untainted by his magic to rejuvenate.

The halberdiers charge Lukas and he easily evades their attacks. Before they can react Lukas mortally wounds one halberdier with a slash to the chest that carves a long deep wound before beheading his comrade with another powerful sweep of his sword. By the time he defeats his last opponent the battle is over.
Wounded and thirsty, it has almost been a week since he last fed; Lukas decides to drink some blood before joining the other vampires. He descends on the dying halberdier with the chest wound and begins to feed. Lukas does not stop drinking until the man is dead and nearly drained. Feeling refreshed from the large amount of fresh blood he just consumed, Lukas strides over to meet his fellow vampires.
“My name is Lukas Samson and I am of the bloodline of Abhorash. I have travelled the width of the Old World to reach this isolated area of the mountains. I received a letter summoning me here whilst I was fighting in the land of the Border Princes under a false identity, yet the letter was addressed to my true name. I want to know who penned that letter and how I was located. It is clear to me that you all must be involved in this matter somehow. I aided you in your fight against these mortals and I would have some answers.” Lukas is wary of the others and keeps his sword in hand.

Lukas drank some blood to attempt to heal his wounds.

Kemsênefer unleashed a terrifying scream from the top of her voice, the shrill sound piercing the senses of the soldiers surrounding her like a blade through the side of their head.

The three soldiers all fell to their knees, shrieking in utter terror at the sight of the Lahmian, before Kemsênefer unleashed a dark bolt of pure death, obliterating them all completely bar one, and the shells of the soldiers dropped to the ground lifelessly. She smiled wickedly, as she picked up the living man and helped him to his feet.

"Do not worry. I still have one use for you... yet." she grinned as she looked into his terrified eyes, before placing her lips on his and kissing him tenderly against the caravan. The soldiers' eyes widened in shock at this revelation, but suddenly he attempted to let out a muffled scream as the Lahmian sank her teeth into his lower neck, piercing his throat and vocal cords. All he could do was watch as the vampire disguised her blood-sucking as a kiss, before his eyes closed lifelessly. She laughed slightly.

Kemsênefer threw his corpse to the ground, which now had its' neck ripped open, and blood decorated the grass. She turned around to Doru, wiping her lips with her thumb before sucking the blood off the tip of it, not a single drop of blood on her lips.

"Your thanks are noted. And you can spare me ze titles, you may know me as... Kemsênefer, ze name I vent by during my mortal existence."

Kemsênefer listened with intent to Lukas' words.

"Ze Blood Knight speaks visely. Your presence in zhis remote place is most... intriguing. Perhaps you'd like to elaborate on vhy you are here?"

Sturm barging in was all the Lahmian required. With the lone halberdier distracted, Montel was behind the mortal in a swift motion. Grabbing his jaw and pulling his head upwards, the vampire's fangs punctured his soft skin with ease. Unfortunately it left a dissatisfying taste in Montel's mouth. The blood was weak and bland, and with an annoyed frown he snapped the mortal's neck and dropped him. It had been a little rejuvenating, but it was far from rewarding. He'd rather let the wounds restore on their own.

As he cleaned his weapons effortlessly, Montel slowly moved towards Lukas and Kemsênefer whilst making sure he'd keep a respectable distance from them. As he sheathed his weapons he smiled lightly at the two. A rather unusual Blood Dragon who did not seem to originate from Bretonnia stood before him, along with a feminine vampire of great interest to him.

Montel could sense the age old wisdom and power in Kemsênefer, a Lahmian who would look upon the others as mere whelps. Montel didn't expect her to grasp anywhere near that power soon, however. If she came out of that caravan she had most likely been in slumber, and with vampires of that skill and age it usually meant a slumber that surpassed his own lifetime by far. The Nehekharan would be rusty in her abilities, and unfamiliar with important events in this world while she had slept. Perhaps she had awoken just in time for the most important event of all however, if this mission would prove to be as grand as it would seem.

"Montel Preznant, Lahmian extraordinaire." The vampire said, giving a small bow to the two new arrivals. He then looked at Lukas and continued, keeping his casual tone he usually conversed with. "Justified questions to which I have simple answers that will most likely not satisfy you. None of us come near the ancient blood you've sensed in the ink, Lukas, and apart from Kemsênefer we have all received a similar one. We know just as much about who penned these letters as you do." He said and he held out his own letter towards the two, partially wondering if the Nehekharan would perhaps recognise the power hidden in the ink.

"Whatever we are called here for, our prize lies somewhere in the spoils of this battle." He now looked towards Kemsênefer. "Perchance the ancient willed you to be here with us and purposefully set you upon that caravan. My guess is as good as yours, if we wish for answers our best bet is the caravan."

Anais’ lip curled slightly as she watched the Strigoi slam into the line of wavering soldiers even as she could see one or two about to give in. Animals, she thought with a sneer, turning away from the inevitable slaughter with absolute disinterest. It would be hardly any great loss if the humans somehow managed to pull him down while he killed most of them. Unlikely, almost impossible, but Anais would hardly care.

Her eyes fell upon a lone swordsman faltering between helping his comrades and running as his instincts told him. Under the female vampire’s baleful gaze, he began to flee but the von Carstein was on him before he could run. Her supernatural speed swept her to him while her sword swept his aside. Her other hand wrapped about his throat, squeezing with inhuman strength despite the apparent delicateness of the hand. A single twist snapped the boy’s neck like kindling before Anais tossed the corpse to the side with a disgusted sneer.

As she stood there, the remaining humans were running, throwing down their weapons and trying to escape. A corona of dark magic burned into life about her slender fist before she thought better of it. Instead she cleaned her sword on the corpse’s clothing and carefully reloaded her pistol as she made her way back to Doru’s side, eyeing the newcomers with faint distrust. The diplomat did not feel the need to feed on the dead like some scavenger and none of those soldiers left alive were nearby. Barely injured as she was it was barely necessary and could probably wait until they had returned to their temporary home.

As she neared Doru though, Anais heard him shout for them to search everything. It did seem to be a sensible suggestion, so she headed towards a wagon that no one was currently searching and began to follow her senior’s suggestion and ripping it apart in search for this ‘treasure’ of theirs.

Doru introduced himself to the new vampires before joining the search. Montel answered their questions well enough. After searching awhile, he began to feel anxious. If this prize was as important as the letter had said, shouldn't it be easy to find? Wouldn't it be emanating magical energy, or be locked in some massive chest? He tossed aside an empty box, and looked over his shoulder. "I don't suppose we left anyone alive? The witch hunter, or perhaps the knight?"

"Don't think so Doru." Nero snarled, rising up from his deathly embrace with his prey. "But perhaps I can offer a solution." He added, a deviant grin playing on his lips. Reaching inside his ghastly embodiment Nero's arm searched his innards for a moment before pulling out a sinister looking black book.

Swiftly browsing through the book that seemed to consist of human skin with it's letters written in blood Nero's unliving brain quickly scanned each page for the incantation he was looking for. This was "advanced" Necromancy and he wasn't sure if it was going to work. When he had finally found it a moment later he rose to face Doru once more.

"I'm not sure but I might be able to breathe some life into the Knight or Witch Hunter, enough to wretch the soul back into the body perhaps and access it's mind and memories." He said, his voice carrying a slight tone of crazed curiousity and maleficent intend.

Doru abandoned his search and quickly joined Nero. "You can do that? Bring them back as more than zombies?" Doru had heard of powerful vampires or necromancers who were able to do such things. He wasn't sure if this Necrarch was one of them, or if he was simply insane enough to try anything. The look on his face wasn't reassuring, but if the treasure was here, the spirit could show them. If not, then at least they would know where to look. "Try it. Raise the witch hunter, he would be the most knowledgeable." Doru was becoming more agitated by the moment. The longer they went without finding anything, without more information, the harder it would be to keep the other vampires from losing interest, or worse, turning on one another.

In response to Doru Nero simply nodded, the serrated grin on his unlively visage stretching beyond limits set by those who live. Without a doubt Nero continued and floated over to dead Witch Hunter. It's mutilated corpse laying in a twisted contortion. Reaching down Nero examined the corpse for a moment and decided that by the lack of blood present after the other vampires had their way with it, it would not require it's legs. Matter of fact, it would be easier to sustain it without it's legs. Pointing his crooked clawed finger down to just beneath it's lungs the Necrarch casted out his signature spell. "Nex."

The Witch Hunter's lower half dislodged violently from it's top, left over blood and the now severed innards falling out from the opening at the top. In grotesque parody Nero grabbed the top half by it's neck, the arms hanging down limply by it's side. Like a depraved and morbid puppeteer Nero held his darkening grimoire in his other hand and started casting out a complex incantation to reap the lost soul back from it's afterlively destination and force it back in this dead hume's mind.

Nero attempts to breathe unlife into the Witch Hunter and bring back it's soul, for now. Use Necromancy, the usual passive feats and Unholy Cynosure.

Nero attempts to bring back the witch hunter's spirit and succeeds!

Doru watched with a mixture of curiosity and disgust as Nero manipulated the witch hunter's corpse. Foul energies gathered as the Necrarch manipulated the winds. There was a horribly scream, one that would have chilled Doru to the bone if he were still among the living, and what looked like white vapor condensed from the air and entered the corpse's mouth, which hung open. Spasms wracked the body as its soul was forced back inside. The reborn witch hunter coughed, struggling to make a sound. It was a lucky thing that Montel hadn't cut the man's throat. "C-curse you, dead things! Just... let me die!" Nero sneered and shook the corpse by the neck, he did not have the same control over the spirit as he would a simple zombie.

Doru, eager for answers, broke in. "Where is it, Sigmarite?! Where is the treasure you were protecting?!"

More coughing. "Treasure... treasure?" A wheezing laugh. "The books... not here. Tricked you bloodsucking bastards, heh..."

"Where is it then?! Nero, make him tell us now!"

"Caravan was... a decoy. They went through the Black Fire pass... be in Nuln before you wretches can... can..."

Nero's magic was losing its hold. The vampire shook the corpse in vain as it emitted a last gasp, the misty essence dissipating once more.

Doru seethed with anger. Tricked by these simple mortals! He paused a moment to think. He was not about to give up now. "We must go after it, we have come this far..."

As Nero recited and casted out the incantations from his grimoire the sky's fading twilight darkened rapidly at the sheer mass of obscure energies gathering within him. With purely negative magic pulsing through his veins Nero spoke the final words and his dead eyes widened in the ecstasy of might as he wrenched the Witch Hunter's soul back from the afterlife and forced it back into the corpse. He felt the Witch Hunter fight back with all the force the dead spirit still possessed. A snarl came from him as he shook the corpse and firmly embedded a claw in his neck to access the brain directly and forcefeed his commands into the deceased mind.

Soon the unholy gathering of magical might was running out of power. This truly required an awful lot of energy to do.. How he had managed it, he did not know. But Nero felt quite accomplished by himself as he dropped the corpse back to the ground where he found it.

It took a moment for him to realize this wasn't exactly what most people would call good news. They. the undead revenants that were plotting the death of all of Old World, were fooled by a couple of insignificant mortals.

"We might be able to catch up with them, Doru. I trust everyone here is capable to raise himself a steed from those fallen in the battle or perhaps those that lye dead in the stables of the fortress? We should head off to Nuln with all haste." Nero spoke, his tone carrying a dire tone of urgency. It was almost as if he had truly gained interest in this missions..

Kemsênefer nodded a little.

"Perchance. But eet matters not now, mm? All zhat matters is zhat I have ended up here; I suspect it vas merely coincedence. But... fate eez a fickle mistress. Nonezheless, I know ve have more important things to be vorrying about right now..."

Kemsênefer listened to the events that unfolded with the witch hunter, with barely-contained disgust at the sight of Neros' work. But what had to be done had to be done... it would seem, anyway. She was badly uninformed as of right now and was not quite sure of what was going on. After all, she had just awoken from her eternal slumber into the middle of a battleground, and was thrust into this mess. And now news that they had been deceived. Deceived. By mortals. Kemsênefer shook her head slightly and closed her eyes, letting out a sigh.

"Zhose books must be vhat you are looking for. Zhe mortal vould not 'ave mentioned it otherwise, for 'e spoke of zhem as zhey were the prize of zhe convoy."

She listened to Neros' words.

"Zhe Necrarch speaks true. If vhat you are looking for reaches zhis... Nuln... zhen I don't really need to tell you zhat all you vill 'ave fought for vill be lost. I'm certain zhat you are aware of zhis, 'owever."

She breathed in slightly, gripping her staff.

"Zhe convoy eez not getting any closer whilst you vait 'ere. You should leave at once if you vish to catch up vith it."
