I'm back, and I'll be be looking at the characters more thouroughly tomorrow. However, I've noticed a few things.

Kojiro, you've spent 13 points on skills for your character unless I've counted them wrong. You need lose a point.

Kithail, you've only spent 10 points. You can spend 2 more on skills, and I won't let you save any points for later.

Draknir: PM sent. You're free to join the RPG now, as there's an open space.

You're right, Kithail, my mistake.

Seeing as Mr. Raukov has failed to make a character within the time limit, your character is included as well, Cyris. Kojiro, you need to work on your fluff.

Name: Gustav 'Karlos' Hackenbaum

Age: 38

Height: 3'7"

Appearance: as his nickname from Nippon attests, Gustav is a short yet
somewhat bulky little guy even after a while in prison (though his
belly is nothing close to the proportions a halfling would be happy
with). Bald and having a ginger beard, he prefers to wear fancy hats.

Background: born in a reasonably well-off family, Gustav could afford
to work less on the land and focus on archery and cooking, those being
his two most favourite pastimes. Always having been anxious to 'see
some ACTION!' as he puts it, he was becoming a regular sight in times
of greenskin raids in defence of the Moot, even serving once in
Averland's provincial army during a particularly vicious Chaos raid.

Gustav's career however was at its peak after a large festival where
his village wanted to dress up the largest tree they could find.
Halfway during this party, the 'tree' woke up, realised it had been
moved far from its home and decided to take off and cause mayhem
across the Moot on the way. Watching the Treeman walking over his kin,
Gustav rounded up a few of his friends to build a hotpot artillery
piece which he'd seen on earlier occasions. Using every flambéed piece
of food he could find, the young halfling managed to take down the
threat and over the instantaneous bonfire, he was promoted to
commander of his self-made artillery piece. Over the next two
greenskin raids, he was able to take down a fair few of 'em with his
talent for estimating range (and damage).

His success didn't last however, and it all went downhill after he
accidentally hit a son of an important Averland nobleman during a
demonstration of his hotpot, which proved to be fatal for the young
human. Still sober enough to realise something had gone wrong badly,
he decided to make a run for it and after a few years of smuggling
himself across borders, mountains and seas in several different
manners, he found himself in Okakama, Nippon. Here he met a small
community of what the Nipponese would call midgets, but Gustav
regarded them as his kin – a few even knew his tongue, and they
regarded him as one of their own, calling him Short Round.

Befriending them, or pretending to at least, he told them of the
places he had seen in the Old World and eventually persuaded two of
them to come with him (he still denies their implication in murdering
two men who tried stealing their food played a part in this); Ill
Young Kim and Mao the Tongue (don't ask). The three travelled west,
serving in a Dwarf army when their beards had grown long and their
artillery sense well enough for them to pose as stunties who'd just
escaped greenskin captivity, and ironically escaping greenskin
captivity when they painted themselves green and pretended to be
Goblins when the army they were with was ambushed and massacred. The
Orc warboss was suspicious at first as their green skin looked like
it'd just been painted (which, truth to be told, it was). However,
after the trio shaved off their beards the big Orc was convinced,
after all no Dwarf would do something like that willingly as far as he
knew.

The warband set off to Tilea to raid nearby merchant convoys and none
of the greenskins seemed to mind the presence of the 'weird 'uns'.
Just as Gustav was wondering when his life of painting his face green
would end, the warband was ambushed itself by a mighty Tilean force.
Light cavalry was about to charge his artillery piece when the two
Nipponese halflings decided to surrender and show they were no real
goblins. Gustav had no choice but to reveal himself as well, but he
had the sense of getting rid of the green paint. Using the stiletto
he'd nicked off 'some Nipponese guy' he gutted his friends and
proclaimed they were planning an ambush. Disturbed as the young
outriders were, they were well aware of the cooking capabilities of
halflings and when he offered to cook for them the offer was accepted,
and they were much pleased when the foodtaster didn't die as a few
suspected him to.

Deciding to put an end to 'see some ACTION!' he managed to quickly
secure a position as cook in a restaurant in Pavona but it was not to
be. In fact, history would repeat itself and as Karlos, as he'd named
himself for convenience's sake (just in case someone from Averland
would visit) was getting a bit too drunk he got carried away and
insisted on showing the customers how he'd once vanquished huge hordes
of greenskins. He built a hotpot in a record time and in a fit of
madness, decided to actually fire it. This, in turn, set fire to a
number of people in the building as well as the building itself and
when it collapsed the halfling was still alive, but trapped. Law
enforcement troops had little trouble escorting him to prison for
destroying the restaurant, killing some fifty odd people, worshipping
Lamekh (the judge reasoned for someone to do as he did, this was the
only reasonable explanation) as well as several other gods, serving
underground cults and practicing the profession of assassin. As for
the trial it was not very interesting, though it's the first time a
single individual was condemned to death 26 times.

Spirit 3
Socialising – as long as people have no idea who this little fellow
is, he's quite adept at making people trust him. (2)5
Physical 2
Agility 3
Unnoticed – someone this small is hard to notice in a crowd or even a
smallish group, which goes a long way when trying to escape unwanted
attention or picking pockets. (2)5
Archer - bows are a halfling's weapon of choice and so it should come
as no surprise that Gustav has a fair amount of experience with it (he
didn't let the Dwarfs know, however). (2)5
Hotpot commander – as an experienced artillery commander (which
doesn't mean all experiences has been good ones) he knows how to
estimate range and effectiveness. When he's sober, at least. (2)5
Sprint - although more often than not halflings in armies are required to shoot at their enemies, occasionally the enemies get a bit too close for comfort. There are two schools of thought in regards to in what manner this should be dealt with: the more brave ones advocating standing their ground with spear and shield, and the less brave ones who hone more natural talents. (2)5
Mental 4
Walking Cookbook – flattery works well in tandem with a good meal, and
his travelling ensured a steady knowledge not only of how to cook, but
also who likes what. 2(6)

Yay, Cyris and Mel are in, two RP players I can't get enough of. :D

Too bad Draknir can't play though, he's good too.

For the ones that noticed, I edited my post and changed some things to the SPAM as I wasn't completely legal. :P

Great news, I'm looking forward to this.

I've been working on some expanded background for Vincent which I could post if you'd like Andruillius but it pretty much leaves the character bare - meaning it tells his history from start to finish.

Guys - I'm going away for a week tomorrow, I thought this would have started sooner.

I should be able to get into an internet cafe during the course of the week, but I can't promise anything. I would prefer it if you could start and let me catch up when I get back, but if you feel like thats impossible, I'll drop out.

But after that week, it'll have my undivided attention.

Cheers

A week is okay - I intend to start somewhere around next sunday, and you'll all have the next week after that to post (but preferably ASAP, of course).

Name: Adriana

Age: 20

Height: 5'7

Appearance: Adriana has a slim, athletic build, dark brown eyes and thick, wavy black hair that falls a few inches below her shoulders. Her skin is relatively dark, as if she has a permanent tan, and her facial features are delicate and well defined, giving her a pretty attractive appearance overall. She's dressed mostly in black, as she was wearing her preferred outfit for her nightly activities. Her black silk shirt and skirt are of quite good quality, one of the few perks that her day job offered. Other than that, she only wears a pair of knee-high black leather boots.

Background and Reason for Execution: Adriana's parents we're moderately successful merchants, their family had never lacked any necessities, but they didn't live in luxury either. This would have been enough to satisfy most people, but Adriana had always wanted more than what she had; she wanted to be like the rich nobles.

They always seemed to be either having fun or doing something important, as opposed to her boring life selling clothes every day in her parents' shop, seemingly sentenced to work there for the rest of her life. The day finally came when she decided to take matters into her own hands, quite literally, by stealing enough to amass her own little fortune.

The fact that she was quite quick and agile made it a simple enough task to steal from most commoners, but after many months of working in the store during the day and robbing the other villagers at night, she'd completely burned herself out before getting anywhere near goal.

She knew that the only way to earn enough money to match the wealth of the nobles was to take it directly from them, and her obsession was so strong that it completely blinded her to the extreme risks she'd need to take. She decided to start on one of the lesser noble houses, assuming they wouldn't be as well guarded, which proven to be true enough. Her careful planning days in advance made getting into the mansion easy enough, but little did she know that the guards and inhabitants of the house would not be her greatest threat that night.

As she silently snuck through the library, attempting to make her way to one of the bedrooms, she heard some faint footsteps that were not her own. She froze instantly, and at the same time so did whoever else was in the room with her. Before she could try to figure out the situation, she caught a quick glimpse of a blade coming her way as the moonlight reflected off of it. She barely had time to avoid it, dodging the other would-be thief's dagger and grabbing his arm, using his own momentum to send him crashing into the nearby table, causing more than enough noise to wake the whole house.

She turned to run, but her competitor managed to grab a hold of her ankle, dragging her down as she tried to sprint to the nearest window. The adrenaline and fear coursing through her allowed her to momentarily ignore the pain from having just fallen flat on her face, and in a desperate attempt to get away before being caught, she managed to kick her assailant's other hand, the one that was about to bury a dagger into her chest. The next few seconds seemed to pass extremely slowly as she watched the man's blow get re-directed into his own stomach, blood immediately staining the area around where the blade had pierced his flesh.

She looked in horror as the gravity of what had just happened sunk in, and she couldn't help but panic, not knowing if she should try to escape or try to stop the man's bleeding. In the end she wasn't able to do either, since before she could even get up, several armed guards and nobles still wearing their nightwear stormed into the room, the sudden light from their lamps blinding her for just a second, which was enough for them to grab her, eliminating any possibility of escape.

As she was dragged away, she could obviously see that the other thief was not going to live by the amount of blood that he'd already lost, which didn't leave much doubt to the fate that awaited her. She was sentenced to death for murdering her supposed accomplice as well as thievery and imprisoned in the Cage of St. Messerini while she awaited her execution.

Personality: Adriana is somewhat shy, especially with strangers, although she does open up as she gets to know people better. She's usually pretty cautious, but she can sometimes be overzealous, especially when something shiny catches her eye. She's not very big on violence, preferring to avoid it whenever it's possible.

Skills and Abilities:

Spirit: 2

Physical: 3

-Counter: Although she's not particularly strong, Adriana does know how to use her opponent's own momentum against them when she has to avoid an attack.

Agility: 4

-Sleight of hand: Having always been competent with her hands, she's learned to put them to more profitable uses than simply sowing clothes. She can pick pockets and quickly dissimulate or manipulate items.

-Subtlety: Being a thief, it's of the utmost importance for Adriana to go unnoticed, which she's usually very capable of.

-Climbing: Not about to let minor obstacles like walls, gates or anything else stand in her way, Adriana has learned to quickly get over most of them.

Mental: 3

-Improvise: Wherever Adriana finds herself, she's able to quickly identify which parts of her surroundings that she can use to her advantage, be it by finding ways to climb or bypass obstacles, potential hiding spots or something else.

-Lock Picking: As long as she has a small piece of wire or something similar to do it with, Adriana is quite talented at picking most normal locks.

Your character is illegal, Mel. You're only allowed to do one point swap on the main SPAM stats, so Agility can be maximum 4, for example, and Spirit minimum 2. A Spirit of 1 is reserved for completely dysfunctional figures, anyway. (like, Gollum)

You'll also need to assign points to your skills, but I suppose they've all got 2 since you have 6 of them.

Please fix all this within the next 10 hours.

Waaagh, you'll have to wait. If Kojiro doesn't show up the next week, there will be a free spot.

Mel: It's still illegal, you can only do ONE point swap. It says so clearly in the SPAM rules. (zomg I just got a dejà vu). I don't need the skill descriptions ASAP, but do know that I'll be making your skills based on simply their name.

Waaagh: As long as Mel's character was up when I logged in this morning, she's in. But don't worry, I'm sure there'll be a vacant space soon...

I was wondering...

In the other RP I'm in, Desperate Times, when we do something, Cyris would roll, tell us the result and then let us write it up in our next post.

Would in be possible for you to do that Andy?? It would mean we have more character freedom, but we cannot make ourselves succeed, as you determine the results. Also, it would mean you have less fluff writing and stuff to do.

Have a look at the RP if you're confused.

Just a thought...

I'm happy to go with the Desperate Times system as well, it takes a load off you Andruillius and lets the people who knows the characters best (us..) play them out as we see them. Like Asuryan said, we cant change failures to successes or anything but we can work something else that fits in with the characters context.
