Re: MSU Elves - Goblins - 22/05

Hi Swordmaster! Another fascinating report, like you I would love to have seen what might have happened if the game had gone to the end! Facing a Legion is quite intimidating, my first ever game of KoW was against a zombie Legion (in a 750pt game!!!), which I quickly realised I couldn't take on dire...

Re: Segway to Hell

Hmm, I don't claim to know a vast amount about those warped monstrosities called Daemons - but it looks to me that you are going for a nice blend of slow but tough anvil units alongside fast but fragile killy units, backed by useful ranged threats. Two questions come to mind: 1. How would you look t...

Re: You probably never saw this coming

Sounds sensible to me. Providing the technical setup is straightforward enough to do, the only note of caution I would sound is to be absolutely sure all the admins and moderators know what their new responsibilities will be - I would hate for there to be any messy arguments after the merge about wh...

Re: HE assembly tips (glue first or paint first especially)

I tend to agree with Rod, and base my painting/glueing on how hard it will be to reach certain areas once assembled. Usually I make up "sub-assemblies" of those parts that can be glued together without getting in the way of painting, for example I'm currently painting some Eldar Wraithblad...

Re: Star Wars (Spoilers)

For what it's worth, I enjoyed Force Awakens. Interestingly, I enjoyed it more the second time I saw it (my wife was away when it came out, so I "forced" myself to go again once she came home  ). As has been said earlier, this is A New Hope for a new generation of fans. In many ways,...

Re: Segway to Hell

Sounds like an interesting battle! Comparing it to your previous fight, I'd make a couple of observations: 1. His magic was less of a threat (evaporating completely!). 2. Your DP, although not doing a lot until later in the game, was able to survive and be a threat - if some of your magic had gone b...

As I finished reading, it started to rain here. Gently at first, but now heavier, with rivers running across the ground and lightning in the sky. And the first thought to come into my head?

Re: How has AoS done in your area?

For my group of gaming friends, AoS has killed any urgency in playing Fantasy-type games. Overall I think we would be happy to keep playing 8th, but our problem is that one of my mates plays Beastmen as his primary army, and another plays Skaven, both of which have wonky 7th Ed rule books. That is p...

Re: Path To Glory - ETC All Games Up!

Hi Curu, As you move on from Warhammer-that-was, I'd just like to record my heartfelt thanks for the hours of enjoyment I've had reading your reports. Although I've played 40k for more years than I'd like to remember, my Fantasy experience began (and apparently ended) with 8th Edition. With most of ...

Re: Banner army for conversion

Hand-made from paper, it seems. I found the following question and answer buried near the bottom of that thread. Inspiring stuff! Q: "How did you do the banners on the Tiranoc chariots?" A: "Good old fashioned paper, oddly enough. The chariot banners are relatively thin paper, folded ...

Re: 9th Edition rumours

I think Rod is correct - I'm certain that if there had been a "true" 9th Edition, then I (and the friends I game with) would have made the best of whatever GW had served up, even if it was relatively poor. Now, we have no real reason to stay loyal to GW's game. Officially GW seem say they ...

Re: MSU HE vs Beastmen - 27.06

Hi SM, Interesting battle! Outmanoeuvring and picking off the smaller pieces seems to be a good way to handle Beasts - I remember a game against one of my mate's Beastmen where he sent his army at me piecemeal while I was able to sit back and shoot/magic him into elf-sized pieces (to be fair, I got ...

Re: Loriel's Guide to High Magic

Sorry Loriel, I don't have any battle reports to contribute - in truth I've never been brave enough to write one! I agree that both Fiery Convocation and Arcane Unforging would work better with the Shield of Saphery tactic in bigger games, where you can have enough magic support options to allow the...

Re: [Article Structure] The Game Lasts 6 Turns - Planning Ah

Hi Curu! This seems like a good starting point for your article, it's a topic that affects all of us but gets forgotten all too easily in the heat of battle - especially if something goes wrong early game (like auto-exploding archmages on T1 #-o ). If I might make a structure suggestion, I would con...

Re: Path To Glory - BR vs Daemons of Chaos November 12th

Hi Curu, If the sequence of results you gave us reflects the order played, then the zero came in game four, which was the 750vp forest if I recall - I'm assuming that said forest (and all those vp's!) played a crucial role in the outcome. Wood Elves could be nasty with the forest, but as Browncastle...

Re: Path To Glory - Double Whammy vs TK & EMP 24.08!

Hi Curu, With regard to the Lifebus, I think it is an interesting list (and fluff-wise a real contrast to the Deathtrain! :D ). I do have a couple of questions: 1. Do you see the bus and the WL operating closely (increasing combat potential but restricting bus mobility) or as two fairly independent ...

Re: Path To Glory - All games from SM + Analysis up!

As everyone has been saying, nice reports Curu! :) Certainly, your final position was no disgrace - Kaj had a big lead in first, but it was only 6 points between you and second place. Having to be the one to face Kaj in the last game didn't help either - that was a horrible matchup to try to preserv...

Re: Path To Glory - BR vs Beastmen April 29th

Also, you mentioned taking a panic test for losing a single silver helm--is this an etc thing? The BRB only requires a panic test when you lose 25% of the unit's original numbers, I thought. 25% of the models with which the unit started the phase (BRB p.62) A friend of mine plays Beasts regularly, ...

Re: Magic Vortex

I'd say generally no - a vortex can't be cast out of close combat, as you have to be able to place the initial vortex template in your front arc without touching units in close combat. My exception to this would be if you found yourself in a situation where your wizard was in the front rank of a com...

I agree with Stormie - modifiers shouldn't apply to Spirit Leech. I believe that it should be your character's LD against theirs, no banners, no inspiring presence, nothing. Trouble is, I can't find a clear rule to sort it out once and for all. Interestingly, GW DID put a clear rule into 40K (shocki...
